Do you use Reptisafe or some kind water treatment?

I have been using "Reptisafe" by Zoo Med to treat my water. It is inexpensive and very,very long lasting. I like using it and was wondering how many of you use it to treat your water for your snakes or do you have another way of making your water right or do you feel it is not necessary to use any water treatment? Got this idea of a question after reading about pennies in the water thread.

Not necessary, been keeping reptiles for a long time and BP in particular for a decade and never used any water conditioner, if I can drink the tap water in my house so can the snakes ;)

If you are worried about chlorine just let the water age for 24 hours.

I'm wondering if you can use something to treat water for spraying down substrate, something that would keep the mold down?

I use my well water for drinking water for my snakes, but I use RODI (reverse osmosis de-ionized) for water to spray my substrate.

Is RODI similar to distilled water?

I think they are. You can use one or the other when using Hydroxide Water Concentrate to make alkaline water for human consumption.

Used water straight from the tap and never had problems.

That is a good question! Someone with more scientific knowledge than myself might have the answer.

I do use the reptisafe when I make my mist water but I don't think that would matter about mold.

But I use aspen & eco-earth (separately not mixed) and change substrate once a month, (spot clean daily) and I get the inside disinfected and then cleaned and dried out.

I use regular old tap water. I empty it and clean the water dish every few days but that's about it.

We have a Berkey filter for our drinking water - the two ceramic filters and the flouride/arsenic lower add-on filters. I do not trust municipal drinking water, but I'm not inclined to trust Reptisafe either. (If that mfr. can't make a reliable thermometer, why should I trust them with the animal's drinking water?)

Chlorine should evaporate in 24 hours, Chloramines won't. My understanding is that some water treatment plants will use one or the other depending on the time of year. I use Prime by Seachem for fish. It binds both the chlorine/chloramines and any ammonia that the cycled tank doesn't convert. Not suggesting that off-label use, I wouldn't do it. If I lived in a place where I was that concerned (I lived in one place that had horrible water, a bunch of yahoos were in charge of the plant, and they got in trouble for fixing the test results), I'd get bottled water. READ the label! Not all are equal.

If you live in an area with little pollution, maybe try rain water?

RO is practically distilled water. Tropical fish hobbyists, particularly Freshwater Angelfish and Discus breeders add some RO water to their systems when water is very hard and Alkaline.

To answer the OP's question, as others mentioned, there's no need to treat water. Aging water that contains chlorine is perfect if absolutely needed.

Our water is safe to drink but because of the taste of it, I filter it with a Brita Pitcher filter. I thank everyone for their input.
I take it then that the majority of people see no need to use Reptisafe, or even special types of water. That is what I was wondering and why I started the thread to see what other keepers thought and where doing. I appreciate everyone's input.

Best way I know to keep mold down is to spray less. Anyway, IMO shedding time is the only time a ball python needs extra humidity.

Any chemical added to kill mold is likely to kill the snake.
