I wouldnt worrie to much and not much you can do to change it. my female hognose takes everything she eats butt first and my Bps have done it from time to time.
Re: mouse down tial first
How old is your snake you might want to consider increasing the mouse size I believe now other ppl feel free to correct me but the fuzzies and pinkies arent as health for your snake because of there age. Because they are so young they dont have all the vitaims and all your snake needs. Now im not sure about that so i could be wrong. As for the actual size though my bp is about 16-17in long (estimated cause i cant get him to stretch out on the tape measure) he he can take a full grown mouse.
Re: mouse down tial first
The important part is that he's eating, not really HOW it happens. Head-first, tail-first, hell, sometimes they take them sideways (quite funny to watch)... the fact that he's eating is all you should worry about.
Re: mouse down tial first
The sideways thing is definatly interesting my bp tried it with the mouse i feed him with last time it didnt really work though. he ended up droping it then tring it again it took him several times to get head first it was pretty funny to watch.
Re: mouse down tial first
Mine took probably over an hour trying to get one of the rat's legs to fold in so he could get it down once when he took it sideways. I wanted to help, but what can I really do? It was already halfway down his throat, and obviously he was determined to get it down that way (or else he'd have spit it out and tried again like a smart snake would).... they're not the brightest creatures sometimes, but hey, it keeps things interesting. :)
Re: mouse down tial first
my bp was 17 " 3 days ago, and was 61 g when i wieghed before eatting. i'll continue with the pre killed fuzzies. when should i consider going to a larger mouse? it doesnt look possible that phantom could take down a full grown mouse yet.
Re: mouse down tial first
Not sure what to say other than our bp was 17" when we got her 2 months ago and was eating adult mice from the get go. Not the bigger retired breeder mice but more the normal young adult mice. She's now about 25" long (sorry no current weight) and is taking 1 or 2 mice per week.
I'm sure a more experienced owner would be better to advise you than me about what is appropriate for a snake of that length and weight.
Ours takes her prey head first but it's hilarious to watch Baby fuss and drag her mouse around by the tail if it's not in the exact postion she wants it in LOL.

Re: mouse down tial first
Go ahead and try for a small adult mouse. If it's not eaten offer a fuzzy again. Or maybe offer two fuzzies? The small mouse would be better but maybe if you can't get him to eat the mouse first, you can prime his little system with the two fuzzies and he'll be ready for a bigger meal next week. Good luck!
Bps give you a massive case of insecurity and neurotism. Welcome to the club! ;) (And as Joanna so accurately said a raging case of OCD! Still laughing about that one :giggle:)
Re: mouse down tial first
Mine was 60 ounces before i feed the first adult mouse that thing never hit the ground they can take it just find its really cool to watch them eat the bigger things. I was feeding fuzzies at first aswell they can make they change no problem.
Re: mouse down tial first
well i will try an adult mouse next saturday. my bp does seem to take down the fuzzies pretty fast once they are positioned right. thanks for the info.
Re: mouse down tial first
oppps forgot to ask. right now i am feeding every sat or every 7 days. if i switch to an adult mouse, should i keep the same schedul or lay off for a few more days?
Re: mouse down tial first
Just stick to the same feeding schedule. You can feed him every 7 days for the rest of the snake's life.
Re: mouse down tial first
how many fuzzies where you feeding him?
Re: mouse down tial first
just one fuzzy every 7 days
Re: mouse down tial first
Then definatly move up to a bigger mouse. I just read in another forum that the fuzzies take more energy to digest then they actually give and if you where feeding just one your snake is going to be very hungry.
Re: mouse down tial first
well sounds good to me. i will give phantom an adult mouse this saturday. should be very interesting to watch.
Re: mouse down tial first
Shouldn't it be a hopper.. ? I guess an adult female is fine. I fed Kiana a male mouse, he was huge, ended up doing a bit of damage to her, because she kinda missed the good spot or what not. Then again I feed her live mice (Which I'll be changing when I move to New Brunswick, teehee! You'll get to see her :P) Anywho *rambles on*
