Sand boa.. [advice?]
Ive thought about vetting a sand boa cor awhile. I've been doing my research, so I know how to care for them. One day last week I saw one in Petco. Just because they almost never have them, I really was considering it. They're very calm with handling despite being a hatcling. I don't like to purchase animals at Petco though, not to say I never have but I try to avoid it. I found a breeder online with a few aneries, and I'd love an anery, but they only ship Tuesdays for delivery on Wednesday which really doesn't work with my schedule. I emailed them if theres a chance it can be held at the post office to pick up thursday when i am actually home, or wednesday afternoon, and they only told me what I already know.
So that leaves the question, should I get the one from Petco? I really like him and as they rarely have them it's a guarantee someone will buy him either way. He felt a bit thin to me (his belly flattened against my fingers when he moved, unless that's normal for them as babies? I expected them to be more sturdy). They told me he came in a few weeks ago and has not eaten yet (I'm guessing 2 weeks or so). Is that normal? I also noticed a few white marks on his belly that did not look naturally-occurring, but I could be wrong. Just hope he's healthy.

Re: Sand boa.. [advice?]
Mines belly is entirely white, so seeing spots im not sure about. Mine is very easy going, gentle even. They do have sensitive stomachs as mine regurged 8 days ago after several successful feedings. So if you get it, i would feed every 7-10 days. They are very soft snakes, they feel different than any other snakes I've held.
As far as buying it from Petco.. I wouldn't but that's just me. I'm fortunate to have a reptile store right down the road from me and he breeds them, so there are plenty lol.

Re: Sand boa.. [advice?]
There are a lot of KSB breeders, try joining the "Sand Boa Classifieds (Sand Boa Keepers)" FB group.

Re: Sand boa.. [advice?]
What I meant is, there were small random bits of their stomach that were pure white and just didn't look naturally occuring. Kind of like the ones that can appear on your fingernails from damage. I recently read something that sounded similar, it was a result of damaged scales after shedding. Not sure if that's the case with this one, but maybe.
Unfortunately I don't have any other local options. I've tried Craigslist for years. People with sand boas ignore my emails after awhile or never respond at all. I live in a fairly remote area so that doesn't help either.

I would, but I've left facebook.

There are tons of great sand boa breeders that ship, don't limit yourself with local purchases and really CL is not something I would ever consider if I was looking for a well established animal.
Jeff Holloway is a great sand boa breeder http://www.hollowayherps.com/contact.php and there is also Steve Beamer https://reptile-collective.myshopify.com/

Those sand boas are way out of my price range. I wish I had that kind of money.

Re: Sand boa.. [advice?]
Not much more than 100. Definitely no more than 130. For the total cost of the snake alone.
Is there nothing wrong with solid white speckles on their belly scales, I'm guessing?

I am feeding him tomorrow. After a 10 day recuperation period. Very healthy snake. I just overfed him.

Crap. I'm sorry. That should've gone through a PM.

Re: Sand boa.. [advice?]
Thanks, but you should try to keep yours as they're already settled in an environment and being shipped is stressful for them.
I'll make due. :)
