She got her new cage! It is very heavy...
I mean, of course there are pics, but my parents had a very difficult time lugging this thing up the stairs... It fell against the wall, and a corner broke off. :|

Anyway, I'm elated with the cage otherwise!!! And Vigil is elated too, or at least curious, as she immediately came out of her hide to rest her chin on the leaves and poke them with her nose. These leaves are a new addition, which she's never seen before.

It's 48 x 18 x 18, which I'm hoping she can use for the rest of her life. She's a little over 5 feet right now, and is that size inside her cage. It has a CHE fixture that I didn't use yet. Currently just using a long heat pad underneath. I took these photos with just an iphone last night, right after I got it set up, so not exactly day lighting. But the fluorescent light though!!

Geez, what an elegant creature.

Very nice Red! Job well done. :)

I have an old 4 ft BoaMaster melamine enclosure. It took a lot of effort for two grown men to place it 5 feet high on top of a small wardrobe.

I sure hope that it never needs to be moved. Yeah, wishful thinking I know.

That is my first and last melamine enclosure for me.

Thanks!! (Not that I did anything...)

Gosh, I can't imagine lifting this thing 5 feet high on anywhere. My dad's a big guy and he's the one that dropped it.
This is also going to be my first and last melamine enclosure. LOL! I just had no idea melamine was so darn heavy, until I went to pick it up yesterday. Despite the cost, I'm going with pvc cages from now on, or whatever material that's made of, which is very light.

    ETA: at your pic, DANG.

I'm sorry that I didn't say anything to you when you posted your thread about the build.

I think that you said that you had already ordered the supplies maybe?:confusd:

Also, I didn't want to be a wet blanket since you seemed excited about the build.

Your friend did an amazing job on that redshepherd! If s/he doesn't build them professionally, they're missing out. Though it might cost a fortune to ship.

Did I post a thread about that? I remember I did mention it in one post, but yes, it was after I already ordered it anyway!

LOL really it's no problem, I'd love to know any and all info even if I am excited! Especially if there are some serious cons to it LOL

I'm afraid I'll have to get my parents to move it all over again about 9 months from now, since I am moving into another apartment... :nirvana:

They do do it professionally, in a local way! Not a friend, just a builder I found off craigslist who makes a ton of these. http://reptihomes.wixsite.com/reptihomes/repti-homes

But he only delivers locally. It really would cost a fortune to ship. I know my 48x18x18 weighs over 130 lbs... just estimating.

    Looks great,

And what a pretty looking snake too. I love the last picture, what a cool head!

I think you will have a wonderful weekend together enjoying the new cage.

Think of all the fun things you can do with it!

I have these in all of my cages. Pretty inexpensive and cool at night.

Nice looking cage but yeah melamine weighs a ton. Also if the ends and seams aren't sealed really well, snake piss will eat the particle board inside it like candy. Heres 3 of my AP T10s and my 1 pro Line which I will probably sell as soon as I get in my other 3 T10s.

Yes, I'm thinking about what other stuff to add! It's pretty empty-looking, since I just moved her old decor in the 3-foot tub into this one. Maybe a live plant that won't get crushed, or maybe switch out her water bowl for something bigger...

Also, that looks awesome! Reminds me of an aquarium. Those strip lights are a great idea.

Eek, I'll have to seal it then. I assume silicone would work?

Are the AP cages also melamine?

Yes 100% silicone would work. I actually prefer Lexel as its not silicone but rubber. It doesn't shrink and stays pliable and stretches. It also seals on top of itself so if you are like me and miss a spot, you can just wipe that spot clean and lay a new bead over the old bead and just push it in with a latex glove on as the stuff is kind of a pain to wash off hands lol. Only down side is it take longer than silicone to dry. I let it air dry for about 4-5 days.

And no, Animal Plastics cages are 1/2" CDPVC. They are really nice. They smooth all the edges. They are heavier than some other PVC cages but they are solid. They also offer tons of customization like flush mounted LEDs and they route the wiring through a channel in the top so everything is clean. Here is a picture of the LED. They offer white, blue or red. I got the whites installed in all my cages. They also will install RHPs for you if you have RBI or Pro Products drop ship it to them. I also got shelves installed as you can see. I like how Gio sets his cages up for the naturalistic look but my gals and guy get out a couple times a week so for me, it's easier to just keep their cages minimalist for cleaning.

    Very nice enclosure.

I've never dealt with that type of enclosures, but I can say that I picked up my 48x24x12 APCage(PVC) very easily after it was assembled and put it 6 feet high.

Thanks for the info Sauzo, I'll definitely go with PVC (or some kind of PVC) next time. I realized how important being light is this time, since I'm an actual useless weakling. I actually was choosing between an AP cage or this local cage builder, but since AP sends their cage in panels that need to be assembled, I went with the local dude who has it fully assembled. I should've done more research on material!

I wouldn't recommend dealing with melamine then LOL, the literal heaviest thing. And I'll be using PVC from now on. :O

Don't be scared by having to assemble the AP cages - they include instructions, and all the holes are pre-drilled. No worse than IKEA furniture. [emoji3]
