C Serpents Rack arriving today.
So as the title says, my rack is en route and it is arriving today. First ever rack, so expectations, things to make sure of? Anything you can give me.
It's the 8 tub v-18 hatchling/ grow out rack. Good for probably up to 500 grams. Then I will get a size up, probably a shoebox rack or one up from it.
So I will place the probe for the ve-100 in the middle rack. I will put my Kenyan Sand Boa at the top since heat rises right and the temp should be a little higher up there?.. the other 7 will be occupied by the pythons.
I ordered 14 small reptile basics hides and they arrived today but they are TOO small for most of them, so I guess I won't be using those. Once I have newborns though, they will fit fine.. for a month or two. But I'm considering not using a hide at all since the tubs are so deep, they should feel adequately safe in the very back yes?
Anyways, I plan on keeping to the paper towels for substrate. I thought about aspen chips, but the heat transfers better through the paper towels, none of my snakes burrow, except for the Kenyan and I will put aspen in his tube. and plus it's just easier to clean.
Anyways, I'm excited to get it setup. I'll definitely post pics. But any other advice that I should be given, it's much appreciated. :)

You won't find better for that price. CSerpents is even on par with more expensive lines.

Hides are a good thing to have because even in racks as you always have an exception here and there that might require it, but in general I would say that the majority will not.
I have no doubt you will enjoy your rack, I have several from Chris and they are my favorites.

Well it is here.

Here is what I did with the back. I didn't wanna put the probe through the front cuz I wanted it aesthetically pleasing.

Now a couple concerns. These tubs are so oblong that I don't really think I'm going to go with paper towels. I'm about to go buy some aspen chips. I should keep it very shallow though right so that the heat comes through?
And also, Chris says there is usually a 2-4 degree variance from the bottom to the top. So should I just kind of shoot for like 91 in the middle and hope for the best everywhere else? He told me not to micromanage it, and I get it. But I'm just anal..

Paper towels work well if you use the rolls with the half sheet perforations.
For the temps, that is what I'd shoot for (~90 or so in the middle). Tends to run the hottest right in the middle of the rack with the top and bottom shelves cooler.

Ok, so I think I will put my Kenyan Boa in the middle. Set the thermostat at 91 or 92 and just roll with it.

As far as bedding it is a reference and it also depends on what allows you to keep proper humidity.
Now as far as temps I usually shoot for 88 but I like to keep my animals a little cooler than most people 86/88

You shouldn't have to put the prob from the front by the way. That's not the way he designs his racks. Very nice though.

Well he piece of paper that came with it said I could put through the front or I could drill a hole in the back and insert it through there. So it was a no brainer.

I don't ever remember that being in any of the ones I ordered, I just stuck it through one of the holes in the back he had. Maybe he stopped doing it then, dunno.

. Great rack! Chris makes quality incubators as well. What you can do is tape your thermometer probe to the outside and back of the tubs on each level and get your temp readings like that. Of course this will be a test run. Then once you've gotten a sense of the temps on each level do the same test run but just put the probes on the inside of the tubs and get those readings. This way you can decide how to set the thermostat so your temps are more accurately where you want them on each level. And this will be done before you set up your animals accordingly.

Right on. Congrats!! Nice rack!

Well I guess I need to buy some acurites then.. up to this point, I've only used a temp gun. .. i think I will be ok with just it actually. I've been gunning it every hour or so and I am only getting about a 1 or 2 degree variance from bottom to top. Everything seems to be going well. Going to the store tomorrow for some half sheet paper towel rolls and also aspen chips just in case I decide against the paper towels.. I'll put in a water bowl, put the humidity gauge in, and check it later in the day. ... the snakes should all be in it by the end of the day tomorrow.

Paying close attention to #5. :)
The hole shown in the picture was drilled by me. There weren't any pre drilled holes or points of entry for the probe.

Very nice looking! Mind me asking how much this rack cost you?

I bought along with the Ve-100. Put together, shipped, about 315.
The snakes are in it. Just got done switching them. Temps are good, humidity is 63% (I like it a tad bit high.) so all is well in Josh's snake room. :)
Now just waiting for my two new arrivals next week!! :)

Cserpents.com is the website. It's really a GREAT quality. And his prices are very good. They are also stackable so I will definitely be adding another of these to the mix. Of course first I will have to get a juvenile or sub adult rack, because my guys are growing quite fast.

I just took a look, good quality indeed, and with everything included too. Not to mention the prices aren't sky high either. I was looking at animal plastics the other day and they don't even come with tubs, and I'm pretty sure not with heat either.
I will definitely keep them in mind. My fiance is more partial to vivariums though lol, which is fine because he intends to build them. I warned him that my snake addiction will eventually result in tubs being the easier and less costly option

Lol yep. As well as a huge space saver. My kingsnake is on display and eventually I wanna get some bigger pythons and boas that I won't plan on breeding so I will do the nice viv thing for them.

That display is awesome looking! It is nice to have some snakes on display.

Ehh. It's ok. He's way too big for it. I'm ordering him a T8 next week. Kingsnakes are great "tank" snakes because they are soooo easy husbandry size. He has a UTH set at 83. A UVB overhead during the day and that's it. I don't really even monitor his humidity or anything. Just keep the water bowl full and he's good to go.

In the picture of the back of the rack where the power cord comes through that space. Couldn't you have threaded the probe through there? You did a great job either way.

The probe was a bit too big to fit through there. I could've cut it a little bit I suppose. But I am happy with the setup. .. thanks Albert :)
