Why do YOU love snakes??
I have always been interested in snakes since I was young. But only now at 31 years old has this passion truly taken me by storm. There is a whole other world of knowledge, experiences and stories that can be observed, learned and felt by keeping these majestic animals. So I'd like to just say why I love these guys so much.
1 Their overall beauty and the way they can control the movements of their bodies. It's a sight to behold.
2 The way they flick their tongues. Enough said.
3 The camaraderie shared between us herp lovers. Gosh I love you guys!
And lastly, because they are pretty much all I think about, other than my family. I think about their safety, their health, their overall well being (happiness). I think about the potential that they bring with breeding, monetarily as well as emotionally. ... I love my snakes for the perfectly imperfect creatures that they are.
So tell me, why do YOU love your snakes?

I love how chill they are, and I am fascinated by the genetics and breeding. Even tho I have not had a chance to get into that, I am planning already and cant wait. I love the ease of care once they are properly setup.

Why do YOU love snakes??
I appreciate their beauty ten fold when I handle them. Their silent movement just mesmerizes me with peace and tranquility.
However, some of that peacefulness and tranquility is lost when handling my Big flighty Coastal Carpets. :D

I've been fascinated by them since I was 6~7 years old, and finally picked ball pythons when I was 11... thankfully, I didn't get one then, or I would've done everything wrong with my poor resources/knowledge. My parents never let me get one.
So after college when I finally moved out, I got my first ball python within a month of graduating. LOL

I just always have had an unexplained fascination for creatures that were unusual, misunderstood, unloved and feared.

I love them cause I get kisses from them and they drink from my lips and sleep with me and best of all they share BonsBons with me!!

The furry pets live in my world, but it just seems like the fish and snakes inhabit a whole different and mysterious realm. I also find the sinuous movement fascinating.

The exact reason why pitbulls are my favorite breed and I own 5 of them:gj:
When I decided to get another pet, I already had 11 already, but 4 are outside/farm animals and I have to make my dogs come in at night lol. I wanted something aesthetically pleasing, easy to take care of and wouldn't need/want my attention 24/7, snakes were perfect. When I looked up beginner snakes, corn snakes, ball pythons, and sometimes red tail boas popped up. The combination of long and skinny..corns feel like worms to me, and I'm not ready for boas yet. Sooo..I got a ball python and I love herr<33 Hoping I can get more in the near future.

I like ease of maintenance too. Also have outdoor livestock that do require dedicated daily time, so, the indoor pets are chosen with "bang for the buck" and simplicity in mind. Snakes fit that - esp. the smaller species. I think rats are really underrated as pets. Cheep to buy and feed, easy to maintain, esp. if you spend some money up-front on a Critter Nation for the housing. They keep each other entertained, but are happy to come out for some daily shoulder time with me.
I am also a member on a parrot forum. I really wanted a small parrot, but some of these birds drive their owners insane. They can be very, very expensive and high-maintenance, and demanding. I decided on two budgies. Couldn't be happier with these "beginner" birds.

For me, I really really love the feeling of having earned the trust of this alien creature. My roommate and I were talking about her interest in my snake and if she'd ever want to get one of her own and she said something to me about how Yigg acts differently with me than with anyone else. I felt so warm and fuzzy!
Yigg is so unlike any of my other pets, even my geckos, that knowing that I'm doing right by him and that I've earned a measure of his trust is super satisfying to me.

Re: Why do YOU love snakes??
I have loved snakes since I was little (thanks to Kaa from The Jungle Book). I think there will always be something exotic about snakes to me. They are such unique animals and watching the way that they move is so calming. The fact that they are relatively low maintenance pets is a bonus.

Yes, well said. I'm a firm believer that the animals learn the hand that feeds them. Our smell... I let my 5 year old hold he snakes sometimes and they just freeze up in his hands. Then He hands them back to me and they continue to start crawling all over my arm and exploring lol.

Snakes are just cool. 'Nuff said :gj:
Though recently I'm loving them even more because (along with our dog) my wife's snake has helped tremendously in dealing with her depression

I have loved snakes ever since my Grandpa would read the Little Book of Snakes to me at 4 years old. It emphasized how beautiful they were. I’ve liked them ever since.

Re: Why do YOU love snakes??
I loved them since I was a child. My Dad would catch snakes and bring them home for me before I was in kindergarten. I just love the diversity that exists within one species of animal. They are ground dwellers, tree dwellers, subterranean dwellers, and even aquatic. I can't think of another animal that can stake this claim with the possible exception of insects, and then it requires metamorphosis. They kill by envenomation, constriction, or just simple ingestion. They are egg laying and live bearing. They come in small, medium, large, and Holy Cow that's huge. They have defensive tactics that range from aggressive, such as striking, spitting venom, or puffery, to passive such as mimicry, curling up in a ball, or even playing dead. Last is the variety of color which pretty much covers everything on the spectrum.
I wish everyone could see them through my eyes and truly appreciate how amazing snakes are.

I think I like the fact that snakes are like living, natural art. I love their colors and appearances. I like their personalities, too.

As a kid I was always on the bottom of the totem pole and got picked on by all the other kids, so I think I felt some need to defend the misunderstood animals of the world. But that said, snakes are also completely gorgeous and amazing. The variety of adaptations they have in order to thrive in such a wide variety of habitats without any limbs is just so cool.
And the ease of care is certainly a factor, too. I got my first snakes as a teenager, when my parents were divorced and I went back and forth between their houses. The fact that it wasn't a problem to only be able to care for them every other day was a factor in being able to convince my parents to let me have them (although my sister did have a chinchilla and a hamster, and my dad didn't really mind checking up on them when we weren't around). It made it easy for my mom to look after them during my freshman year of college when I couldn't bring them into the dorm, and reasonably easy to convince landlords to let me have them after that, since they don't chew or have dander or pee on the carpet or bark, etc. And now, I appreciate that it's not a big deal when I go out of town, cleaning is easy and infrequent, etc.
And all practical considerations aside, I just love their little faces. :)

I have been keeping ball pythons for only a few years, and just last year gave life to E.B. Ball Pythons. At first, like so many others, it was the wild paint jobs and the fun genetics that drew me in. The more I get into it though, the more excited I get opening my animal's tubs, whether I'm providing them with their normal care, see them sitting on a pile of freshly laid eggs, or am getting ready to send one off to a new home. Not to mention all of the incredible people I've gotten the chance to meet and learn from both here and in the larger community. I seriously geek out about these guys and can easily spend hours on end (at all hours of the day/night) planning, thinking, and talking about what's yet to come. On top of that, I've been lucky to learn that there really isn't a better feeling than when one of my animals provides those same inspirational moments for one of my customers. There isn't one aspect of this that I'm not passionate about and put in the effort for to make sure it keeps rolling.
Best regards,
Eric

Best reply yet. ... I wish you didn't live like six states away! Lol :/
I don't even know you that well yet, we haven't even spoken. But you give me inspiration. Your spare bedroom that you maintain by yourself, the passion for these animals that you have. Your kindness and willingness to communicate. It's top notch bro. You've earned a devout customer.
