Olivia the Pig
Because of all your adorable short-tailed couch potatoes, Beks decided she wanted a blood python for her birthday. Olivia, our new yearling Sumatran blood python, arrived today in time for the big day on Saturday. Beks named her after the children's book Olivia the Pig and Olivia has been settling in quickly without any nips, but with a lots of huffs. And now for pictures, none of which does her colors any justice...

Definitely stunning. I've never owned bloods but always thought about getting on eventually.

Thanks all! She's so awesome and might be one of the best birthday presents I've ever gotten. :D
I still can't get over the fact that she's "just a normal" with that gorgeous coloring. Her temperament is a huffy little lamb, until she settles in and then she's full-on potato... which is exactly what I was hoping for! Poor thing will be subject to many hours of book-reading and tv-watching over the course of her life. (I can't wait!!!!!)

Awesome-joining the short tail side! She will be a great lap potato, they are the best at hanging out. Take lots of photos, it's amazing seeing how much they grow and change.

Happy Bday to Beks! What an awesome present. I know you'll love Olivia. They are such great snakes. I love my Blood, for sure.:)

We discovered Olivia had brought along some stowaways. Mites. Lots of 'em. Total bummer, but we're thrilled we had her QT tub far away from our BP rack, our BRBs, and our beloved rescues -- a BCI and Hog Island.
Olivia has been perfectly lovely throughout the de-miting process and the PAM is working like a charm. Her personality is incredibly sweet, but cautious. She has shown zero nippiness even with the discomfort of the mites. I think it's safe to say that Olivia is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. <3
We snapped this cute picture of Olivia watching her own back after her soak this morning.

Re: Olivia the Pig
Sucks about the mites! At least it's a pretty easy to solve problem. She's a really good lookin' gal. :)

Yeah. We're definitely glad it's an easy problem to fix and that it seems to be contained to only Olivia's room. Our housemate's rescue boa (gorgeous, but awfully shy hypo-cyclone BCI, Bonnie) came with mites, so we're all well-versed in quarantining and in the PAM and Reptile Relief procedures. :P

Re: Olivia the Pig
Congrats on the new baby! Bloods are so gorgeous.
Be sure to tell whomever you bought her from that she came with mites, if you haven't already.

Re: Olivia the Pig
We did. Never fun news to receive, I'm sure. "Hey, dude, check your house for mites..." :(

Ah! Mites are the worst, that sucks. I had a boa come in with them and spread them around when my borneos were babies and they were not at all impressed with bath time, striking all over.
