Not the best pics but ill get better when I figure out how to use the camera the right way lol.

Love the pattern and the new camera.
-
Thanks man. Its just a little Canon point and click jobbie but i'm still trying to figure out to work the flash. its like you lightly tap it and it flashes and then push for the picture or something. I need to actually read the manual lol.

Been awhile. Here is Luna today going for a swim after eating. Guess she didn't get the memo of you should wait an hour before going in the water after eating :P

She is so pretty.
I've come so close to picking up some Dums over the past few years. It's just a matter of time.
-
You should get a dumerils!!! See where this is going......super dwarf retic....dumerils....you need both!! :D And thanks. Luna is a little sweetie. She's gotten so big too. She was a tiny little noodle when I got her about 4 months ago. Now like 32" and filling out nicely.

Wow that's interesting . I don't normally like the look of ' normal' boas . ... having a Snow boa myself ... but those pix of the Dumerils changed my opinion

Well technically, Dumerils and Madagascar ground Boas are not BCIs. They are a different species of the boa family kind of like sand boas and rubber boas etc. Yeah Dumerils are a little more obscure. Most people just think of the popular BCI morphs or BCC when they think boa.

Sorry when I said normal boas I meant not albino / SunGlow / Snow...

Yup, Luna in the outdoors....as much of a slug as indoors haha.
She did get really worked up a couple nights ago and struck the cage door twice when i walked by. I flashlighted inside the cage and she was coiled up looking at me haha. I think she needs the next size up from small adult mice lol. She usually is quiet when full but recently, she has been a terror at night.

Re: Little Luna
Very nice, Sauzo. My guy's a month older than her and I'll be moving him to eat pups as soon as I finish the last adult mouse I have in the freezer. How often do you feed her? I'm feeding mine weekly and it seems like he's hungry 3-4 days after he eats.

I feed her a small adult mouse every 10 days but she is hungry 24/7. She has never struck the cage door though especially 2 times lol. I think I'll move her up to large adult mice. She can easily take those now I'd bet. She's about 2.5'.

Re: Little Luna
She looks amazing Sau! You have to be proud of her. Really special animal.

Thanks and yeah, she is awesome. I love her pinkish top and how she is a total lounger as well haha. Not to mention, she eats like a horse and never refuses dinner lol.
-
She's a beauty. I really love those stars on her side! :)

Was doing the rounds tonight of digging in substrate for hidden 'easter eggs' and as I was scooping a poop out of the front corner of Luna's T10, I see this little head sneaking up on my hand lol. Who says Dumeril boas don't like to climb? Luna will prove them wrong lol.https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...33018fb0_h.jpg

Your little beauty is sure growing quite well.
I've wanted a Dum for so long, but other snakes keep getting in the way. And now I'm about out of room. I reckon I'll live vicariously through you and Red Shepard for now. :)
Please keep updating as she grows!

Thanks man. I was my reptile shop today buying everyone dinner and they had 2 hatchling Coastal Carpet Pythons. I was sooooo tempted lol. They were so cute. They were about 12" each and had the tiniest little heads and were cruising all over. I got 2 extra cages, one if i end up following through with getting a Gila but not sure. I really cant afford a bite from one as I'm sure it would put me out of commission for a couple weeks. Want a Pucallpa Peruvian BCC and a Peruvian Longtail boa BCL but those 2 little coastal carpets were so freakin cute!! How's the temperament on your coastals?
-
My three Coastals and 2 Jungles are tame as can be. If you get a hatchling Expect it to be defensive for the first year to year and a half. Could be more or less. If it never is, then consider yourself blessed.
I really feel that Allison will grow out of her defensiveness. And your pet shop will be able to sell her soon, if not already.

They still have her and she is still defensive. Not as bad to tag you across the cage anymore but they use a hook on her also and said she is still 'sassy'. And yeah the coastals are hatchlings. They have had them about a month or two she told me but when they got them, they were tiny. Right now, when i looked at them, they are about as thick as a pencil and like 12".
She told me they are nippy like pretty much all carpets but being as young as they are, she said if i picked one, i shouldnt have a problem taming it down if handled a little every week.
-
Looking great.
A very neat part of the boa family IMO.
You have a nice solid collection.

A young carpet bite is nothing. Mine was a yearling and bit me often. I started going right ar her with a tight, closed fist and she wasn't too interested in biting. I also used a perch and she felt much more comfortable being out.
Not sure where I'd fall between a Brisbane locale coasty or an Iquitos Peruvian though. Boas are awesome but so are carpets.

Yeah, those little coastals were sooooo cute but after thinking a bit, i think I'm going to hold out for either an Iquitos or Pucallpa Peruvian BCC and a high contrast Peruvian Longtail BCL. I've always been a boa guy. I know what they are about and my 'kids' have all been awesome so no reason to deviate from the plan :)

Very understandable, it's a tough choice in which neither is wrong! :)

Thanks. Yeah she has grown like a weed. She's probably close to 3' if not slightly bigger.

She's looking good Sauzo.

Re: Little Luna
Oh man, she's looking great! Getting big, too! I love Dumi's; I literally napped with mine today!
-
Wow, I really didn't realize how big Luna has gotten since I got her until tonight when I was cleaning up a piss. She was stretched out in her cage so I slid a door and....I smelled pee!!. So I went hunting and started cleaning. What is it with snakes wanting to get right into the middle of a clean session. Luna kept crawling over to the place I was scrubbing with F10 trying to see what was going on or trying to sit on my hand or arm haha. Think I had to push her away like 5 times.
But anyways, I snapped this picture before I spot cleaned and the end of her tail is bent around the back hide. The center pillar in the pic is the 2 ft mark. She is just over 3 ft now i'm guessing since I got her Sept 2016 at about 18 inches. She was such a tiny baby yet was chunky...she has always been a chunky girl haha. She is so curious but is terrified of FT rats haha. Never seen a snake boogie away so fast before lol.

Wow! that is one beautiful Dumeril's. I have been debating down the road if I want a rainbow or a dumeril's and this one would make me choose dumeril for sure.

Thanks. If you want the ultimate tv buddy, get a dumerils. Luna is content to sit on me for hours watching tv haha. The boas are hit or miss, some days they are content, other days they just want to find something they can get into trouble with or climb up. Dottie the BP just likes to explore when out and Caesar is the same way, neither him or Dottie like to sit still more than a minute or 2.
-
Opened up my windows in the basement and decided to open all the snake cages as well and let the fresh air flow lol. Luna decided to perch on her litter dam and soak it up. She is the most laid back little girl...unless she smells a rat, then she panics and runs away even if the rat is dead lol.

Thanks. And yeah Luna is definitely a sweetie of a snake. She would be perfect if she wasnt terrified of FT rats lol. Once 2 adult mice become too small for her, there is going to be serious tough love involved to get her to rats. No way i'm feeding a 5 foot dumerils mice.....i love the snakes but i draw the line at some point lol.

Re: Little Luna
Have you tried her with rabbit kits? The day-old ones I get are about mouse-sized.

I buy them frozen, so it isn’t as bad. Plus the really young ones are hairless, which cuts down on the cute factor a lot.

Luna is scared of anything that even smells like a rat lol. Only snake i've ever seen that was scared of a food item. And a dead lifeless food item at that.

That’s why I asked about rabbit kits - they shouldn’t smell like rats, and you can go bigger as she grows.

I have a hard time getting a steady supply of rabbits small enough for the boas and retic, i dont think i could even find kits unless i found a meat rabbit breeder locally.
-
Re: Little Luna
I guess I’m spoiled, two feeder suppliers at the local twice-monthly show have rabbits, including kits.
