Dumerils Boa slow growing progression thread.
Thought I'd actually start a progression thread for this slow-growing species (so slow... I'm getting impatient LOL), so that I can just keep throwing new pictures up here as time goes on, and I don't have to decide whether to make a WHOLE new thread every time she grows a little or I change her enclosure!

Vigil was born August 2013, and I got her August 2015.

Here are only some of her past photos over time since the day I got her from the Pomona reptile super show! 2 years old and about a 3 foot long skinny noodle.

Sorry for the gross photo of me in it, but it shows her relative size. This was around January 2016.
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...2zso3_1280.jpg

Still fitting in her medium size reptilebasics hide. When I got her in August 2015, she fit about half the size of this hide.

Her size in the 110qt sterilite tub that she is still using.

Try to ignore me in my pajamas again as I post more size-relative photos.
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...32zso1_500.jpg

Recent, at just about 5 feet long! Still small looking.

Very recent, last month! Size relative selfies. About 5'6" in length now and 3 years old. She now uses a large size reptilebasics hide and it's pretty cramped!

Great pics, I can never seem to get good ones, he moves so fast! Plus it's difficult to really show their color. I totally understand what you mean about slow growing but you can see she's put on some size. I got my dumerils and my borneo short tails as babies all in spring of last year so it's been cool comparing the different species. If I didn't put the dum on the scale I would barely notice the growth. I have to dig him out super quick because he shoots off like a bullet otherwise but so well tempered, never even hisses at me. Eats and sheds perfect every time.

How funny, I've only ever seen slow moving ones! How old is your dum? Mine is my most apathetic snake, she doesn't give two craps about moving... She loves pretending to be a potato though. Once I put her on a blanket and she gets in a comfortable position, she will just sit there like a statue for an hour.

And same, dums have great tempers. Vigil has hissed at me a few times, but only when I surprised her by taking the lid off the tub too fast.

Yeah, once you compare the first few photos to once they're older, it's a big difference. I can't wait for her to grow up.

Nice looking dum. Now I know what I have to look forward to in about 2 years lol. My little girl is only about 18" and 2 months old. Looks like she will be on hopper mice for a long time lol.

Oh yes LOL. Actually no idea the rate they'll grow as hatchlings, but when mine was 2 years old, she was on small rats. She's now 3 years old and on big mediums.

Thanks guys! I completely forgot I made this thread OMG. Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it.

I have to say that I'm always more or less biased, and she's my favorite snake to handle (love her the same but different handling from my GTP). I'm sorry, ball pythons.

I'm a fool, I should just post my dum pics in my own thread. Pffbht

I don't know if I'm just getting increasingly impatient, or if she stopped growing. (probably the first) PLEASE GROW FASTER YOUNG ONE, I would very much appreciate it if you were 7 ft already, thx. My fault for getting a dum and being paranoid about a boa growing "too fast" or "too big". LIES. ALL LIES.

A 5'6" boa is much smaller than you'd imagine, you heard it here first folks.

I agree with Cletus. Look at your first post on this thread - it's from 4-5 months ago. There's are marked difference in her size. You wanna complain about slow-growing. My male is 8 months old and he's barely over 200g. He's gorgeous though and I can tell he's grown a bunch since I got him.

Oh yeah, she's definitely grown since then! :P It's funny that she could perch on my shoulder back then like that, but doing that is getting more and more awkward now. I've been staring at her and telling her to grow an inch a week. WHY DOES SHE NOT, HOW DARE. (JK)

That is so funny about your male! How small! I skipped that whole size/age, since I got mine at 2. It's pretty amazing that baby dums are so much smaller than hatchling ball pythons, but their final adult size is way bigger.

That is funny about the growth rate vs size difference. I have a male BP that I bought around August of last year. He was around 450g then. Now he's almost 1000g. Meanwhile the Dum can barely keep weight on. I may have to increase his intake though - I feed him on Wednesdays and by Sun/Mon he's acting hungry.

Dang, your BP is also a quick grower! I bet he's a good eater LOL. My little female I got last September at around 170g is now 555g, and I thought she was growing fast. :O

Hmm maybe a bump in food size would do too? My dum right now is eating a large rat every 3.5 weeks (I know this is almost impossible to compare though LOL).

I️ love that this is one of the first things that popped up when I️Google searches “slow growing Dumeril’s.” Vigil is so beautiful! Her head shape and eyes are just extra, extra cute. Glad to know I’m not alone in the struggle. I️ pulled my Dumi out today and she just seems so small. It feels like she’s hardly grown since I️ brought her home in March. She’s she’s every two months since then, but she is still small compared with others her age. I’m sure it’s because she hardly eats, but I️ just want her to hurry up and be a big girl who can sit her giant head on my lap while I️ watch cartoons! She’s been 187 grams for several months and is only 29 inches at a year old.

That 187g seems so small, but I think still a fair size. I got my dum at 2 years old and maybe 500g (I weighed her back then but I don't remember exactly). Hopefully yours eats more often soon and can put on size!

It's kind of hard to measure her exactly, but I'd say she's around 5'10" or maybe exactly 6'. She's around 4.5 years old now. I don't have an exact birthday, since I was just told she's 2 years old when I got her in August 2015. So I've been counting her birthday as anywhere between March~August 2013. :D

I'm honest not sure what type mine is, he was a rescue. People have said he has hypo but I'm unsure, his colouring would suggest he is at least part island dwarf but who knows... He is pretty and docile tho!-)

Weighed Vigil finally and she's 7 lbs at currently 5.5 years old.. Yay! She's also 6 feet long.

A very, very average size for a female dumeril's lol. Unfortunately, my XXL hide isn't particularly useful until much later. :P Or will probably give to some snake in the future.

Also a short simple video of her. http://dogsignalfire.tumblr.com/post...of-vigils-life
