    Nice Little Normal
I spend more time admiring Callista's colors and pattern than I do with the butter or the champagne. This afternoon she decided she was going to be a bracelet. I tried getting her off and putting her back into her cage, but she wanted nothing to do with that, and only rewound herself tighter every time I tried, so I just grabbed the camera and took a few pictures of her instead.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pse4vnt6ve.jpg

I love the way her head fades slightly to that rich java coffee color.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psy50pmjx8.jpg

"See what I nice bracelet I am? How about if you wear me to the mall?"

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psf59yk4zx.jpg

    Finally untwisted her.

Showing off her head coloring and markings.

I'd like to see more normals. The morphs are pretty, but the normals are nice, too. :)

She's gorgeous, I love the variation between normals and honestly, despite the all of the pretty morphs I've seen normals are still my favorite! The first picture I saw was of a normal and that got me as far as owning a BP today. My next BP is definitely going to be a normal, I'll make sure to share him/her.

Thanks. :) I agree, they are underrated. If they were rare, people would probably seek them out.

Someone on Morph Market has a normal labeled as a classique and is asking a higher price than a normal would usually bring. LOL!

I've always thought that if 'normals' didn't exist and someone suddenly developed a morph that looked like a normal everyone would go crazy :)

They probably would. It seems like the morphs get prime billing and the normals sort of fade into the background.

Anybody else want to post pictures of their normals for us to admire?

She's up to 161 grams this morning, almost double what she weighed when she arrived at the end of June. Before too long she should be able to graduate from bracelet to necklace. :)

She gets a rat every Saturday, and is currently eating fuzzies. Good feeding response, and nice calm disposition.

Releasing pet snakes into the wild is just wrong for a number of reasons. I'm glad you snatched her up. That was a nice save, and now you have a beautiful pet. :)

Nice! It sounds like you got a well socialized snake. Great pick-up, and pretty, too!

I got Callista in June, too.

Have to agree--more normal pictures are needed here. (Mine are not visible at the minute due to Photobucket problems.)

What do you mean by normal, well theres no such thing. Yes , they might have the same color, but wait, they don't their color can be darker or lighter, their patterns are all a little different. To me normal means the same, no variation. So there really is no such thing as a normal, just the natural morph. I wish the word normal was eliminated from the BP vocabulary. Lets just say thats a beautiful natural morph, cause normal is boring and that BP is far from boring.

    I agree totally !!!

Maybe you should start a movement going to rename the ' normal ' to something more appropriate .... Maybe they should be known as Royals and all others could go in front of that label ... Albino Royal etc etc

I agree completely! There's a lot of variation, so much so that many newbies, including me, have trouble distinguishing some morphs from normals. This also causes people to get normals and think they might be morphs or dinkers. All of them are nice looking.

LOL, a few weeks ago I saw someone on Morph Market selling a normal as a Classique. The price went up along with the name. :)

If you're looking for a pretty pet, there's nothing wrong with a normal. There are plenty of them out there so you can choose your favorite pattern.

'Wild type' has nothing to do with where an organism is born. It is the genetic term that refers to the phenotype of the typical form of a species as it occurs in nature. The most prevalent allele – i.e., the one with the highest gene frequency – is the one deemed as wild type or 'normal'. :)

For example the wild type mouse coat color is Agouti.

"Classique" is French for "Normal" and the locale is Épernay, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine which is located in France. Captive bred reptiles in United States are less expensive (believe it or not) vs other countries. Take a look http://www.morphmarket.com/stores/map?cat=bps

I think i opened up a can of worms with this. I love all the suggestions, maybe we can start a pole here then hopefully the winning title will catch on, Since i don't know how to set up a pole thread maybe someone will do it. I think that wild natural is good but didn't a couple of morphs develup in the wild, so maybe just calling then naturals, or natural royals, or one of the other suggestions, i'd love to see these pretty guys with a better nomenclature, rather then normal.

I am also a big fan of Normals vs the artificially selected specimens. However it's only fair to acknowledge that without the 100's of designer patters/colors available today the hobby would be nowhere near as large as it has grown. This very forum itself could never have reached 50k+ members without morphs. Case in point just look at the relatively small number of hobbyists involved with Garters, Bloods, Boas, etc, vs those involved with BP's. It's not because of the Normals.

Also, at least one experienced hobbyist advises against breeding Normals, and he has some valid points. Listen for yourself:
