Natural disaster preparation for snakes?
I'm in Socal, and we just got a warning a few hours ago of a magnitude 7 earthquake POSSIBLY happening in the next week some time. (As high as 1% chance or as low as 0.03% apparently, so really the chances are very very slim)
What are some preparations I would need to make or stuff I should buy, assuming the earthquake has a high chance of happening, assuming the electricity goes out for a long period? Where do you put your ball pythons and how do you set them up?
I'm especially wondering about my green tree python, but I might ask this in the green tree python community. But if anyone knows, please let me know too.
Re: Natural disaster preparation for snakes?
I keep pillow cases and a big rubber maid tub by cages in case I need to move 'em out quickly. I also keep a supply of heat packs.
Filling up water jugs prior to expected extreme events is a good idea.

I would suggest buying a set of shipping materials from shipyourreptiles- enough for your entire collection. Keep it all packed in what it shipped to you in, but near your collection. If worst case scenario happens, you have the materials to keep everyone safely contained for about 48 hours. Have extra heat packs handy.

Given its current track, if I were on the east coast between Florida and New Jersey I'd be laying in supplies.

I'm in jersey- and I'm getting antsy. Since hubby is emergency personnel im alone during all storms. With no car. If we ever get an evacuate order I'm just gonna be stuck.

We had a fire creep too close for comfort last week and I was glad to have snakes/cat/dog ready to take off at a moment's notice.
I hear you. I had to run from the Slide Fire in May of 2014, and evacuated with the geckos, beardie, and dog. (I didn't have snakes then.) One thing I learned is that if you keep plastic kritter keepers around to use in case you need to evacuate herps, it's a good idea to keep a piece of paper towel in between the stacked cages. I spent a lot of time fighting to get the things apart when time was precious.
