introducing Itachi
I got Itachi a few weeks ago. I went to pick up an Ivory ball python from a friend and ended up bringing both the ivory and the IJ carpet python home. He's on rats and isn't nippy or huffy unless he's in shed. I have him in my spare 20 gallon exo terra cage until I can get him a taller cage. His head pattern reminded my husband and I of Japanese Kanji so I named him Itachi from the anime Naruto.
here's pics from this morning since he shed last night!

Itachi!! My favorite sad Naruto character ;;
He is beautiful, congrats!

Very nice.
IMO far more interesting than any royal, but that's just what I think.
Actually getting 2 at the same time is pretty fun!

Carpets are a blast to keep. I love how they like to perch on branches. You are right they are more interesting than my ball pythons. Congrats on your new baby.

Absolutely gorgeous carpet! Congrats :)

Thanks everyone! I think he's awesome but I'm biased lol. He does have a lot more character than my ball pythons and he's easier to handle than my blood python. For his bigger cage I'm looking at the exo terra 24Lx24Wx36H, does this sound like a big enough cage or is there a different one I should look at?

Congrats on your beautiful carpet! :)
As far as the ET 2x2x3 cage, that will be a good temporary cage. I'm glad that you are thinking "tall". IMO, that cage may be good for 1 1/2 to 2 years of age +\- .
My Jungle Carpet has just about outgrown her first cage. She will be moving into a 4X2x3 foot high plastic enclosure . She is highly arboreal, 50% of the time she is soaking in her water dish and the rest of the time being perched up high. She is never cruising or laying on the ground. She is almost 2 yrs at 4 1/2 feet + long.

I have room for a 3 ft high cage so I'm going to give it to her since she is my favorite display snake to watch. A 4x2x2 would be a good compromise and work well if I did not have the room.
Since IJ's are considered to be the smallest of the Carpets, you may be able to get by with a 3 foot long cage in the end. I would recommend at least 2 ft high, and more if possible. Of course you may only have so much room to work with and have to adjust differently.
In my experience with Coastals and my Jungle, they will use any and all of the space that you provide for them. More space just adds to your viewing pleasure. :)

Re: introducing Itachi
Your carpet is so pretty and I love all the climbing branches! I'm really happy to have one that likes to climb! I was leaning towards getting a GTP but a friend said his weren't handable without getting bit, then I found Itachi and the rest is history lol.
Ok thanks I'll save up for the AP cage then instead it's a little more than the exo and I would rather only buy one cage and not two. Itachi is my living room display snake, my ball pythons and blood python are in a rack system in my room since I have 7 ball pythons that was the best way to go with them plus they are 80% of the time in one of their hides and don't make a great display as Itachi. He is either on one of his branches or laying on the ground under a branch but still visible. Since he is the only one in the living room I have the space for as big a cage as I need for him, plus we are looking into moving in a year or so since I ended up rescuing a second leopard tortoise and my yard is only big enough for one adult not two so we got to find a bigger place and I'm thinking one with a second room that can be the ball python room.

Thank you :)
I'm glad that you are going straight to the AP when it's time. That's a good plan. You will actually save money in the long run. I'm on a fixed income, so I understand that some folks need to work their way up to the forever cage as I have done and am currently doing.
For example, Lizzy, my largest Coastal carpet is doing fine in her 4x2x2, but I'm currently putting together an AP 72 x24x17. She's losing height, but she spends most of her time in her bowl anyway.

Lizzy decided to get a bit out of bowl and watch me doing her new home build. [emoji4]

Re: introducing Itachi
That's a very nice IJ. I agree with the others, carpets are great snakes to keep. I think you'll enjoy them. Keep the pictures coming. ;)
