Re: rubbermaid users beware!
It happens to the best of us, and I'm glad you found him before he got a chance to disappear into that mysterious black hole :)
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
hey as im sure ive mentioned somewhere along the line out here im a orthodox jew (but lets please not get into a religion debate) so on saturdays which is our sabbath i cannot handle Monty (unless there is a danger to a person) so u can imagine my mass hysteria when i woke up one saturday morning rolled over and looked at Monty's tank and the door was hanging open!! i started tearing the room apart going nuts trying to figure out what to do then i spotted a little mound of Monty doo on my floor i cleaned it up and just glanced over at his tank and lo and behold hes sitting inside the tank!!
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
Wow, that's interesting, what is it about the Sabbath that makes you not be able to handle your BP? (I know very little about the Jewish faith, I'll admit)
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
it really complicated and btw it'll be sabbath in under a half an hour from now8:03 (if u notice ive never posted after sundown on friday and before sunset on saturday
the whole not handling snake thingy is that there is a concept of anything that has no purpose u cannot do on sabbath eg you can walk ur dog but u cant play catch with it and if handleing monty was absolutly vital to his health then i would be allowed to
i can change his water or clean up feces because that couyld have negative effects on him i cant feed him because it could wait (same things apply to a mouse i feed live so sometimes i have a mouse that he hasnt eaten yet and i can give it food on sabbath but not touch it
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
Did I read that right? Monty got out, pooped on the floor and then went back home? LOL that's wonderful and too funny really, good for Monty!
Thanks for explaining about your religion. I always find it so interesting to learn about others beliefs and practices.

Re: rubbermaid users beware!
no problem
and yes unless some one in my family decided to work up enough nerve to enter my lair and take out monty poop and put it on the floor he got out did it himself and went back in
which actually makes me feel good about the cage because if he went back in it was the only accessible place with good temps for him
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
Ahh, it happens to most of us once or twice.
I did the same thing, but with a 20 g with a sliding lid. I was feeding him and didn't close it all the way (i did, but there was a like 2 mm gap) and forgot to lock it. .. Next morning I look and he's gone.
Atleast you found him!
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
Even if it has a locking lid you should still drill 4-6 holes and use S hooks or U hooks and lock it down using those. I have done this with my Rubbermaid and have never had a problem.
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
My Ball Python baby has gotten out before. I went into my room (thats where I keep all my snakes), and then I see him sticking half way out from under the bed with my cat like 10 inches from his face. He was a little guy only 16". He is 17" now, and hasn't gotten out again. What freaked me out was the fact my cat was in there...I was so worried she had hurt him. But he was all good, I put him back in his cage and piled like 10 books on the top.
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
What a well trained snake LOL!
It's so easy to lose them sometimes - I lost my Beardie last year - we tend to let her run around and make sure the doors are shut then - of course one wasn't so she escaped. She was gone about a week and we put up posters everywhere and notes with her pic on through letterboxes and our neighbor found her basking in his garden as though it were the most natural thing in the world - a week later. They seem to tend to stay close and I've learned on this list (I'm new) that snakes don't wander too far away from their enclosures either.

Re: rubbermaid users beware!
Well Eden freaked me out about an hour ago. She has a glass aquarium. I had her out today and asked my son to put her back. The lid had a 2mm space that it wasnt closed (she's over 2 1/2 feet). I was walking upstairs to get something from the kitchen and my boyfriend says to me "isnt that your snake on the floor?". I thought he was twacked, but he was right. She was so cold and she would have had to fall off of my dresser about 3 feet from the floor to get down. We have a cat too, that was happily sleeping on the couch. Needless to say, I'm a bit on the freaked out side. Sigh....... Waddaya gonna do with em....
Re: rubbermaid users beware!
Tis why I put bungy cords on my rubbermaid plus its so long it needs re-inforcment in the middle of the lid. Ive lost my Corn three times in 9 years. but once she was in the care of a full time baby sitter. the 1st time to this day i have no clue how. her lid was 100% secure. Ive learned from my mistakes. No more lost snakes. prolly the hardest animal to relocate cept a goldfish. >=)
