Another Progression Thread

I know, I know! Another progression thread! I just couldn't help myself! I already have a thread on here but that was more dedicated to selecting my first carpet not necessarily focusing on her! I just can't help myself but to tell everyone about her! (it's like I've had my first child!)
Anyway without further ado, a picture overload of Xena (zen-nah) the CCP:

After giving her a mouse for her first feed I wanted to get her on rats asap. Here she is smashing her first rat with no issue:

During handling she began rubbing her nose and head on me, applying quite a bit of pressure! I placed her back in the viv and she continued, I was getting concerned until I realised she was starting her shed! Her shed measured in at 91cm which is just shy of 3ft! (bigger than I thought).

Maybe it's a carpet thing, mine went into shed within a week of coming home as well :P

So she took 2 rats on Tuesday and was still looking a little 'full' today! I may offer a smaller rat a couple days later than normal on the next feed! Little piggy!

That's how I knew mine had had enough when I took him out: he struck at the camera instead of me :P

So I'm starting to think I have a bit of a princess on my hands!! She switched to rats so easily I thought I'd had it too easy and turns out I have... The rats I bought have a great size difference within the label 'rat fluff' and some are so young they have no fur... Xena is disgusted by this and will not take them unless warmed up and drop fed! Dangle a furry room temp rat and she nails it like I've not fed her in weeks!!

Thery are very inquisitive. Just wait a year or two and they can be a bit troublesome knocking things off of shelves and walls. :taz:

She's a beauty! I'm looking forward to watching her grow. :)

I have quickly learnt how inquisitive she is!! Definitely not a 'lap snake' like my BP! 😂 but I do love the fact she will just hang out on my shoulders/ around my neck/ on top of my head whilst I carry out some chores! 😊
Which brings me to the question, do snake's 'know' who you are?! When I handle her she climbs all over me! But when I pass her to my partner she just wants to travel down/away from him and if I stretch my arm out she'll come straight over and onto my shoulders?! Have you ever witnessed this behaviour?

I don't know if they "know" who your are. But they can prefer one individual's scent and or temperature over another's. Also the way that they are being handled may matter as well.

Hmm that makes more sense than them 'knowing' us! Although I feel the cold alot more so would have thought my body temperature is on the lower side! But I certainly agree I smell better! 😂

Very pretty snake. I love it.

So Xena shed again for me over the weekend (23rd Oct 16) and I measured the shed, 3.5ft! Her last shed measured at 2.9ft on 5th Sept 16! Haven't updated in a while! Xena came out to play today... Need more play time less feed time for this one as she's beginning to think anything moving is fair game! 2 rats just aren't keeping her content for long enough! 😂 can't believe how much she has grown and how chunky she is getting!

I've never seen such a white snake.. what morph or phase of CCP is she?

I can't wait to see her adult either Shane but I still want to keep her a baby for as long as possible! 😂
Maausen - She's an Axanthic Jag! She's definitely something else! Her breeder said she's the best one he's produced and was holding her back for his own projects but his plans changed so had to thin out some of his stock, so I jumped at the chance!

Daaamnnnn!! She's a beauty!!

Her breeder stays in touch for updates on her and is asking if I'd be willing to do a joint breeding project. I'm not sure how I feel about it, she's only 327g at the minute so a long time until she's ready but she's still my pet, I don't see her as a money maker but think she's too pretty not to have babies! 😂

Thank you Ziggy! You're little collection is looking great too! I worked out that she has put on 60g's in 6weeks! She's taking 2x 'rat chubbs' (15-20g's each) once a week, I'll be moving her up a size once I've used all my stocks of this size as she's certainly ready for it 😂

How old is Xena now? Approximate weight and length and what you are feeding her? Sorry for all the questions, you done a great job with her growth.

She is just over 2 years old. Weighs 500g and 4.5ft long 😊 feed her 2 x 25g rats every 7-10 days but she needs bigger rats to be honest!

Awesome, thank you. She is incredible looking and is going to grow to a nice impressive size.

My Bredli is about 1.5 years old and I'm finally starting to put some size on him the last couple of months that I've had him. I need to get his weight this week but he is around 3 feet. Right now he is eating a small rat every 7 days but could easily handle a medium sized rat.

I'll start getting the weights on the rats so I can compare. Thank you again.

I'm hoping to get her to a good size! I was worried she was going to be on the small size!

It's good to see them growing when you think they're a bit small! I know I worried about Xena when I first got her!

It is helpful to know the weights of the rats so I can feed an approximate percentage of her weight! Else I worry I'm going too small/too big as I can never accept that they can eat something so large in comparison to their head!

Dboeren - she goes an awesome dark caramel colour when in shed and then comes out such a clear white, it amazes me everytime!

I think Xena is probably the most beautiful carpet python I've ever seen, that white and black contrast just blows my mind :O there needs to be a mind blown emogi lol. She makes me want an axanthic jag lol, definitely keep the updates coming I'll be watching for sure
