Current setup:
40 gallon tank, with partial screen, partially enclosed top to retain humidity.
BEST hides I have tried are these clay pots with holes drilled out for him to fit, LOVES THEM.
Under-tank-heater on one side with heat lamp as a extra heat booster when needed.
Large ceramic dog water bowl large enough for him to submerge himself when needed.
Some leaf cover/log tunnel etc.
Thermostat control, upgrading the thermometer and hygrometer soon.
RAGNAROK is very comfortable now.

Our royal is no longer in this cage, however she could easily go back if needed.

If you want something a bit more "exciting" to look at, add a simple background picture.

This cage is also insulated with "Refectiix" on the back, sides and bottom.

It's a 40 gallon just like yours. They can work well when set up properly.

You have a fine looking cager.

I cant find a background picture big enough for a 40 gal tank. I have seached petco and pet smart. Any clue where I can get one? I love the pots by the way!

That (mine) was cut to size from something larger.
I suspect any poster/print you could work this out with.

1st..set ups look good.. To both of you.

Do your UTH have thermostats?

And I suggest immediately replacing the dial temp and humidty gauges..they are garbage. Do not read correctly at all. Get digital ones.

By getting digital temp gauges, you can place probe on floor of cage to get a proper reading.

Fish section of petstore..on rolls.. U buy it by the foot if I remember right. They are usually dual background..one for fish..and another tht can wrk for this.

What are your temps running on the floor of the cage, where your snake has contact? Ambient temps can be supplimented w heat lamps or ceramic heat emitters if not warm enough. But belly temp on hot side should not exceed 92.. Target is 90 tho. This is why it is important to go immediately and get digital gauges that have probes you place on floor of cage. To measure ambient, use same, suspended mid way to top, off floor.

Here are my temp gauges ontop of the cage..currently, the cool side is a lil cool..and humidity is a lil high, because his humidifier just ran a bit ago..

The background in my cage, is foam..made by exoterra..u can buy replacements.. The exoterra I have is same dimensions of a 40 gallon breeder tank.. I am thinking that you could get one for your 40 gallons.

I'm not sure which one of us you are speaking to here.

If you didn't catch it, our royal is no longer in a glass enclosure, hasn't been for some years now. I recommend plastic enclosures for most snakes and we only use them for the snakes we keep here. These are Pro-Line cages from Constrictors Northwest.

The royal's cage is up top in the photo and the boa constrictor's is the taller and deeper bottom enclosure. The last enclosure is for a coastal carpet python. All cages use Herpstat thermostats, and are heated by Pro-Products radiant heat panels.

If you enjoy backgrounds, these, sans the royal's cage, have durable rubber backgrounds. They are cosmetically pleasing but cost a few $$.

Though I still have some digital thermometers in the cages, I get better area temps using an infrared heat gun.

Even still, after all I've stated about the preference for plastic cages, I would not hesitate to drop the royal back into the glass tank as she did just fine in it.

That unit is now controlled by a Vivarium Electronics stat for ambient temps, and a Hydropharm for the UTH. It is not in use at the moment but it's nice to have as a spare.

I agree, the OP should have a thermostat, and a heat gun is a very handy tool.

The biggest gripe I had/have with the 40 gallon was/is top feeding and cleaning. I agree that front opening cages are easier to deal with. Jeanne, I like that cage you posted.

As stated, the "picture background" shouldn't be too hard to find. They do look nice IMO.

You can wrap the sides as well. Put the Refletix on the outside and tape it with foil tape.
