How would You Splurge $1,000 in Reptile
ok let’s say that u were at the Oprah Winfrey Show and she gave everyone $1000 to everyone in the audience. Or if u lost out on tickets to see Oprah but u won $1000 from a scratch lottery ticket anyway. what would u spend that cash on that’s herp related?

I think $1000 in reptile money is a would be a very nice splurge. not too big, not too small. u can buy a really nice animal, but not something too rare and expensive. or u can buy a few animals and/or some gear. me, i would buy a something i don't have like a Bamboo BP. Like this reduced side pattern one with some striping: https://morphmarket-media.s3.amazona...b5df4da8c6.jpg

Anyway get your window shopping on. How would u spend that $1000 reptile money?

Oh boy... All the possibilities!!!! I could spend all day window shopping for morphs. :D

Honestly, though, I think my big splurge would be to build up my Sick Snake Rainy Day Fund. After the vet bills we're looking at for Wintre's tests and treatment, it reminded me of what happens if we have to deal with if more than one of our pets gets sick. Sigh.

    Either;
Down payment on a pair of Blackheaded pythons (yelow jacket or orange dream) from Derek Roddy,
Down payment on a pair of High quality sub adult Aru Green tree pythons and possibly another Biak female,
A quality pair of captive bred Malaysian Mangrove snakes (yellow and black),
Material to build the enclosures for these guys,
Put toward converting part of my 3 car garage to a snake room for future expansion.

Ug, at this point I think 1,000.00 would create more problems than it would solve for me....

This actually kinda happened to me. I got a $1000 bonus so I spent it on an adult pastel pied female from Ralph Davis. It was a good investment since she had a pastel pied baby this year!

I'd probably just get two more cages from pvccages, and use the leftover money to pay for part of a nice juvenile GTP.

I need an adult rack, a baby rack, and to replace the furniture the rats chewed up. Otherwise, I thought I did pretty well when I scored my GHI combo girl at Daytona for an even grand.

Already splurged this year on a new snake although no one gave me the money-that would have been awesome. If I got a free extra $1000 I'd put it towards my red tail boas new cage and pedestal, it's what's next on my saving plan.

Buy a nice pair of cresties+ all the vivs and stuff, and also see if I can buy a cheapish 8 foot enclosure for the burm for when shes bigger (found one for less than £200) I would probably buy a leachie gecko or just save the money for future use, like vet or food bills.

Can it be $100,000 instead? Then I could buy a big house to fit all the reps I want in, along with some of the reps!

But if it was just $1,000... Probably nothing and just keep it back and dribble it in to buy equipment as and when needed. Not intending to get any more animals for like 3 years as there's no space so *shrug*

I doubt the $ would cover it, but I'd try to house my animals like this.

Enjoy the video, its relaxing. There is a separate "build" video on the channel as well.

Obviously this cage isn't for a royal or corn snake.

I think they did a nice job and I'd love a spot like this in the house.

Send mine to AP - a T12 for when my baby Woma Python grows up, a divided T8 for the king and milk snake to share, and something big for the red-tailed boa.

If it had to be spent on livestock, the feisty little white-lipped python that behaved so nicely for us at Reptile Rapture, and maybe a blood or a Stimson's Python.

i think i may have underestimated the big spenders and pragmatic shoppers.

my impulse would also make me spend that cash on a Super Special like this - https://morphmarket-media.s3.amazona...8-IMG_1132.JPG and a Herpstat 2 or something just b/c. ;)

If I *had* to spend the money, I'd probably spend it on a baby CA or High Island boa, and then the supplies to build it a luxurious forever enclosure.
But actually, I'm not totally sure whether I really want another snake. I had just my little old corn snake for many years until he died six months ago, and I got a baby bp. Part of me wants a boa, or maybe a woma or maybe even another corn in addition to the new ball, but I might just still be a little heartsick over my old guy. We were a happy one pet household for many years, so I've told myself to wait at least a year before I think about another animal and see if I still want another one then.

Considering that I've already splurged that much on snakes, I'd probably use the money to pay down my credit card. :P

Got my male pied and some nice het pied morphs. Check them out: http://www.iherp.com/Public/Animals/...c-f2c8bd565e9b

Splurge with $1,000? That's hardly a drop in the bucket. So far I think I've spent about $10,000 this year LOL. I just threw down $1,400 for a Pastel Desert Ghost male and a Pastel Spider Desert Ghost female (the female is already a year old). In a couple years when I start breeding them I'll get that money back in a jiffy! The more you spend the more you make when breeding snakes, it's an investment. I actually saw a 2200 gram Enchi Spider Pastel Desert Ghost female for sale that would pay out in the first year (if she laid eggs) but they wanted $4,200 for her, a bit out of my price range! Plus you would need a male, so that would be a $5,000 investment (you would get most if not all back in a year or two).

I actually bought a bunch of adult females that are ready to breed this year, including a bunch of normals and single / double gene females. I'm breeding those to a high end Co-com for a quick turn around, will probably only do that for the first year or two to start and then replace them with my pied stuff as I go. Also bought some female Clown / Lesser Clown hatchlings for the three year return on investment. Of course since I'm breeding snakes full time starting this year I have plenty of time to take care of all of my snakes and rodents. I have so much fun doing it I tell people that I don't work anymore LOL.

For an extra $1,000 I'd probably stock up on rat food and coconut husk bedding LOL.

Not necessarily true about the comment of 'the more you spend, the more you make snake breeding'. The average consumer isnt going to spend $2000+ on a snake as a pet. The people that spend that kind of cash are usually other breeders. If you are in the hobby to try and get rich, you will be disappointed. From the boa morphs, what i have noticed is to make the 'real cash', you need to grow the snakes fast, breed fast and unload the babies fast. Then work with that until other breeders start to catch up, then you need to dump and move onto the next big morph and rinse and repeat. Kind of irritates me really as boas need to be slow grown.

But anyways, from what i have seen, most of the big cash snakes are sold between breeders. Look at Scoria boas. Henry Piorun was the only one breeding them for a long time and he was charging around $25000 a pair. A lot of people are now breeding them in the states and Henry's price has come down to $19000 a pair now. Give it a few years and it will drop more as Scoria is a dom trait. Recessives are where i see money being made or in the case of boas, local stuff. Peruvian BCCs are still going for $800-1000 and nice surinames are $600. Those are much more budget friendly to the average consumer.

Anyways, good luck on your breeding projects. Ball pythons is a very saturated market. Now if you are doing it for the fun of just seeing what you get and stuff, then cheers, thats the way it should be :)

Animal plastics PVC cages, decked out with cool hides and fancy thermostats for ALL MY SNAKES! oh wait, it is only $1000. Nevermind, I would just get a really nice RB Vivarium rack, and a new designer female for breeding. Probably another pied combo.

I'd pick up a nice pvc enclosure with rhp for Talion, and a big ol' pvc enclosure and rhp and a male BCC.

Probably pretty boring compared to everyone else, but I'd love some nice enclosures to keep in the living room. Some day when I'm not racking up more student loans lol

What I'd want: A pair of Desert Ghosts... maybe a single gene female (just a DG) and a male enchi DG, or a nice male DG with multiple genes (say, pastel enchi DG) and a het DG female..

What I need: A new adult CB70 rack from c-serpents and another 4'x2' pvc cage from animal plastics for my Central American Motley boa..

Probably what I'd buy: The C-serpents rack and a DG male...preferably one that is het hypo. :D

Now, i could also see myself spending it on a nice junglow BCI or pair of anery/het anery BCLs.... Too many options lol, you should have made the amount 10k. :P
