    Logo Design Poll
I'm considering a logo refresh for E.B. Ball Pythons and wanted to get everyone's opinion. There are, as you can see below, six designs to choose from (including the current one) as well as a 7th option for me to go back to the drawing board. All of these will be paired with my business name in the final version.

Which speaks the most to you? Besides voting, I welcome any and all feedback you have as well. Thank you for your insight in advance!

I like the script letters EB on your current, but i like a snake image too (as opposed to the letters BP), put the EB, (but with thicker lining) over the the #5 or 6 snake. Over white, i do not like the white border, but it might pop nicely over a colored background, i cant tell.

Eh. What are these for? The simplistic art style is nearly manditory in a lot of places, but completely bland in others.

If a higher art style is used by others for their logos, scrap it and go to the drawing board. If these are above 75% of the design used by others, I'd suggest going with 6, but drop the line around the head marking, like 4 (keep the spinal line, though, that looks good).

Again, unless you're blowing the majority of other's logos out of the water, with your design, put in the extra effort to blow everyone else out of the water. It will hold stylistically for a longer time, and you will look at it and go "that's sick".

I agree with dkatz4. The EB initials would look pretty good over a blue snake.

I like #5 very much: sharp. I like the sleek design rather than going too complicated. It's easier to mass produce and can be embroidered on merchandise. I'd keep the spine and head pinstripe because they keep it balanced. It will really depend on how you pair it with the EB, though. If it was on top of it like the original, it may make it too busy. I'd have to see it. If it is on top, I'd go with 4.

Looking at your current pic being your logo, that's the perfect spot for something simple. Try removing the outline on the headspot for number 6. I bet it looks really slick without it.

The white border line on 3 and 5 kind of splits it and makes it all seem less real. While the lack of the white border on 4 and 6 makes it seem more 3-D, like the snake is just crawling through the box.

For something like your avatar, this works. But if you're going for merchandise, it needs a bit more flare than this to effectively work. Have you considered how to combine your name/initials with the snake? Removing the box and having the snake crawl through the initials may be a nice touch, especially if it looks 3-D because of how you design it. Consider more detail on the snake, though. Things which can get lost at a distance, but make it pop more up close. Then you can easily balance out all sizes.

    So. In summation:
    1. Maintain the 4/6 design (no white bordering on the snake)
    2. Maintain the black line along the spine from 5 and 6, but drop the line around the head design (stylistically you would be showing off the spinal ridge, while pattern markings wouldn't need hard outlines)
    3. Consider having the snake crawl through your initials instead of through the box.
    4. Minor details help.

For minor details, faint patterning on the snake would work. Retain your nice dark/light color design, but consider a mid range color doing the darks on the light side and the lights on the dark side. An eyeslit never hurts (perhaps do the eye a shade or two lighter and the slit black). Another good idea would be to have your initials colored in a contrasting color, so a healthy distinction between the colors arises, making both very noticable. Another small bot you could add would be a tongue, it wouldn't be so noticable except on larger sized pictures, and it would be a nice detail.

As an aside from that, perhaps angling the snake so it vaguely spells Bp would be cool. You could have the head loop under the body to make a cursive p, which would be more like bp behavior if they were to do that

And no box around it, or encompass whole design.

Thanks for the awesome suggestions, friends! Admittedly, after working to incorporate a few of these ideas for several hours tonight, I came to the conclusion that my time would probably be better spent elsewhere and I should leave this kind of thing up to the experts. I consider myself to be pretty creative, but this process (for me) is slow as all get out. Go figure, right?

I decided to invest in myself and put up a design contest for a new/updated logo on http://www.designcontest.com that will run for the next couple of weeks. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the collective designer thinktank will come up with! Along the way, I'm hoping to share some of my thoughts about the process with everyone here. Maybe someone will be motivated by my own experiences.

    Best regards,
    Eric

I think you got it right the first time. Clean and professional. The other stuff is too "clip art".
