Meet Kai!
I've wanted a JCP for a couple years now, and I recently found this little beauty at the local reptile show. Could not resist. ;) He is a bit of an ass, lol, but I'm hoping he's like most and calms down. My big ol' ball definitely seems like a cuddly puppy dog in comparison. The breeder said he's around a year. I just cannot get over their beauty. There's definitely nothing else like them.
Anyway. Meet Kai. :) Very first JCP.

Re: Meet Kai!
Very nice jungle Brittney. Welcome to the dark side of Morelia :). Carpets are a blast to keep. I can sit and watch mine for hours.

Re: Meet Kai!
Congrats! That is a beauty for sure!! Don't worry, I'm sure with time he will calm down. My one carpet was a real fireball when I got her and now other than the occasional nip if I startle her when she doesn't want to be bothered she is a total sweetheart. Morelia are addicting, good choice :)

Thanks! :D I've gotten so many compliments on him. He's definitely a looker! I hope he continues to brighten up nicely. The breeder said his parents are really nice looking snakes, so here's hoping! And that's good to know. :) He has already settled down a little bit, and he was no where near this nippy at the show. I'm sure he'll be great once he gets adjusted.

Congrats on your Beatiful Boy!
Now you will see why we of the "Morelia Fan Club" think these guys are just a bit more special.

My Bruce was a bit of a brat at first, too. Now he's just on the move all the time when out. [emoji4]

A few more pics of my boy. God, I can't get over how pretty he is. X) Still waiting on him to shed for me. I'm very, very excited to see how much he brightens. I think he's starting to calm down? :P Still a long way to go, but he's calmed considerably since he first got here. Still strikes a ton, but they're all defensive ones. When he's calm, he's actually really good! And probably a really stupid question, but do anyone else's carpets love pooping in their water dish? He exclusively poops in there... his own personal 'toilet'.
Anyway, more Kai. ^^

Re: Meet Kai!
Kai is too precious! A late congratulations on picking him up.
They do calm down over time as they grow. One of our gals was a real spit fire, but after a few months she realized we weren't predators and now she's a total sweetheart :) Kai will get there too.

Very nice!
The experience will be very rewarding, beyond beauty and coloring, if you plan to cage your carpet in a semi naturalist setup. I've been having discussions elsewhere about the activity levels of carpet pythons. Generally speaking, they are one of the more rewarding display snakes out there.
I have a coastal mutt that hasn't stopped moving yet this morning. TV is nothing compared to watching her. She has been at it for about 2 hours and I'm expecting her to settle in for the day.
You will more than likely see the same behavior from that pretty jungle of yours.
I'm not sure of your experience level, but I used to present my hand as a tight, closed fist and that seemed to deter a bite. My big hand was too big to attack. I also started handling with a perch. My girl would use the perch but would also crawl over my hand. She was secure on the perch and got used to me quickly. I think I took 3 bites from her when she was small, and now I can't even force her (not that I'm trying) to bite me.
On my "want list" there are 3 snakes, and I think adding another coastal carpet or bredli ranks #1 on that list.
You made a great choice. I recommend setting that snake up to fully enjoy it. You won't be sorry.
