    Record Keeping
Just wanted to recommend a program we've been trying out.

    http://www.eyehit.com/degei/

We are using the free trial copy for now. The full version is only $20.00. It's a nice little program. Very clean and easy to run for us with only the one snake at this point. I looked at a few other record keeping programs but some seemed way too complicated for a simple snake owners like us LOL.

If anyone else knows of other simple record keeping programs to recommend please do as I'd like to check out a few before we buy a registered copy.

    Thanks,

Seems like pretty neat little program. Up to this point, I've just been logging information into an Excel spreadsheet. I'll have to download that software on my PC at home and try it out. Thanks. :)

ha ha..... I have some Excel spreadsheets that I use, I keep them in a notebook.....There is not really that much information too record that would require a program. PM me and I will email you my spreadsheet layout(it is not too fancy but it works). All you have to do is print out a few copies and put them in a notebook. I hate having to go look at a computer screen to get information. Just keep the notebook by the snakes and presto....instant access.

I was gung-ho for that program a while back but could not get them to support or help set up having it on a central database so records could be updated from different computers :(

Might have to peek and see if they have added that functionality.

I do it the old fashioned way. :) Whenever one of my snakes feeds, I mark it on a calendar reserved for this purpose. I periodically weigh them and mark that down too. Everyone should keep some sort of records on their snakes!

I'd have to be busy half the day beating on Mike and the kids to leave off scribbling notes on the back of my snake index cards.....and in this house...find a pen! not likely! :P they are either all lost or put up high so the 4 year old can't create anymore wall art (not much help as I'm only 5'1" and can't reach where Mike put the dang pens!!!! :frustrate ) LOL

Put it this way...if there's ever a fire...after Mike, the kids and the pets are out...me and the computer, the eraseable white board and my cell phone with it's handy dandy calendar feature are next to go....the rest I can live without! *knock wood*

OOOH! I have that Degei program. It's pretty neat. I'm always typing stuff in it. The trial version serves my purpose since I won't ever use all of the features anyway.

Are you sure you are talking about my program? I don't think you are. Degei has always supported a client/server setup. Even when it was HerpHelper. Maybe there was some other issue? I do request a $7 per additional pc fee if you are running the full version, but as far as I know, you can do it on the trial version at no cost.

Might have been another issue - but I've decent experience setting up database apps - though admnittedly our home network is not on a domain or anything. And it has been a while since I've tried (name of app has changed in the interim as well). Been so swamped with other stuff including site, work and family havent had the time. I had checked the site and the FAQ's for documentation but didn't find anything - mind you this was back from when it was HerpHelper.

Yeah, the help file is way lacking. ;) Every time I sit down to write it, I wind up working on new stuff for the program instead.

All you need to do is install on PC1 (server)

Then install on PC2 (client) and map a drive to the server.
With the drive mapped, goto the edit menu on the client, then system setup data, and path options and set the server path. (browse to the location of the degei.exe on the server)

There are a couple bugs on the client remembering settings, but those are going to be fixed in the next patch.
Honestly, besides myself, I only have 2 other users that use the feature.

    SWEET!

Thanks, Damon. This will lend it much more efficacy as my wife and I have herps (and PCs) scattered throughout the house - in fact the bulk of what she cares for is back in her computer nook/office and most of the rest are downstairs. I know all too well how it is to be busy amigo - and also too familiar with the exciting realm of system documentation lol! (I keep promising myself a job change).

First, you buy me a mac.
Then you buy me a copy of RealBasic.
    Then you fund the development.
    ;)

Might as well come over to the dark side, Mle - sounds like mac might be popping Intel chips in their boxes soon anyway:( If I was still building systems as anything other than the cheap way out I'd offer to hook you up.

    Re: Record Keeping
oh now see if they start using intel chips then yeah i'll have to switch. i was looking into getting one of those $299 dell deals (mostly just for browser testing and pc only apps) but then they want $99 shipping and i'm not going to go and almost double the price of the computer with the shipping.

    Re: Record Keeping
Check slickdealz.net daily if you are even thinking about getting a Dell. They frequently have stackable coupons that lead to insane discounts on systems. Just had a couple of friends get some systems that way and they say there's no better way to go . . . other then growing your own, of course.

    Re: Record Keeping
ya that program does look pretty cool. I have been doing it the old school way by just making a chart on a piece of paper and writing in the dates and what nyxx eates each time.

    Re: Record Keeping
Yeah I just use one of the 12 mo booklets you get w/ daytimer and mark what happens on that day and as the year's pass I just store in a file box.
I do a summary at the bottom as to how much eaten, UR's, BM's and shed's per month, etc.
Simple enough. That way I can just flip a page and go back a month or two to check trends.

Heck, the way I keep blowing up computers I wouldn't want to store anything on them :) (3rd computer in 3 yrs)
I guess some of us are just not high-tech :)

    Re: Record Keeping
I just write it all down in an excel file. I have two excel files, one for the T's and one for the herps. Every herp gets their own seperate page in the sheet. I used to use a notebook, but it started falling apart on me.

For snakes it's fed, BM, weight, length, cage cleaning, type of food, dates, shed, and sometimes any other odd issue.

For the geckos, it's just weight, cage cleaning, eggs and any other odd issues (like when Blush got his nose bitten).

For the T's it's latin name, common name, id number, silly name if it has one, molt record (primary reason for being in the spreadsheet), who I got it from, and sex.m The id number exist for tracking container. I know what is what in almost all of them, but when you have spiderlings of the same genus, it's much easier to tell them apart by tracking number for which species is which.
