Pairing
Hi. I'm new to the forum and some what new to ball pythons. I'm having a hard time trying to pick what ball pythons to get and pair together for breeding. I was just wondering if someone would have a small list of some good pairing ideas. I'm having a hard time choosing

There are quite a few ways to do this depending on how much money you want to spend. At the lower end the least effective I would try would be a het pied to a pastel het pied. That gives you a 1/8 chance of producing a pastel pied.

Re: Pairing
Ok thanks. Here is a list I have right now. Mocha bumblebee, butter, pastel, 2 het albino, 2 normals

What kind of price range are you looking at?

Re: Pairing
If you have the money I would suggest buying a visual recessive animal with a het. This way you don't spend all your money on two visuals and you have a 50% chance of hatching more visual recessive. As for the rest you mentioned, butter genetic stripes look great, maybe look into queen bees, bel complex snakes such as super mojaves are beautiful and fun to breed with, and pastave combos are great as well. Honestly just pick what appeals to you most and then start from there because if you are thinking about breeding, do it with morphs that you will enjoy most and not what is popular or expensive. Would love to hear your ideas and additions in the future!

Ok thanks for great info robbie82 and piedlover79 are you talking about price per snake or a collection

So a butter genetic stripe. Means you breed a het genetic stripe to a butter. Sorry I'm new to all this and trying to understand the recessive part of ball pythons the dominant and Co dominant are easy

First you need to get an idea of your budget after that you need to determine if you want to work towards long term projects that might take time to pay off or if you want instant gratification and produce something right away.
After that go here http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/ look at the combos and decide what YOU want to produce, don't let other people's taste dictate you you work with or own.

no, that pairing can't produce pied. in order to produce a pied, both parents must be at least het.
give this a read.

If you have any questions let me know! :) in order to produce a butter genetic stripe you can do it in a few ways. One way is to breed a butter het stripe male or female to a het stripe or stripe of the opposite sex. To produce a visual recessive no matter what, both parents must be at least het (heterozygous) for the recessive gene meaning they carry the gene but they do not show it visually. Hope that helps a little :)
