Getting rid of gophers using snakes

I was looking at wikihow on how to get rid of gophers quicker than shooting them all and came across a piece of rather unorthodox information.

Granted I didn't expect good information on wikihow but should they be allowed to instruct people to buy and release non venomous snakes as a predator in their yards? It seems rather careless to me and it looks as though they genuinely are giving it as advice

I don't care about snakes eating gophers a la 'circle of life', I'm saying it's insane to buy a 'non venomous' snake, release it in your yard, and expect it to solve your gopher problem.

Well, it does seem like an expensive fix, especially since you can't guarantee the released snakes will give a rat's butt about your gopher problem and will likely take off for parts unknown as soon as you let them go. However, I like snakes more than cats or dogs, so I'd be willing to give it a roll...

Maybe if you bought a trained snake....

Aren't gophers pretty decent sized? Wouldn't it require large snakes?

Damn! I knew mink were amazing hunters, but I didn't know you could 'train' them.

I've thought about buying a bunch of rat snakes and setting them loose in my barn. . .I know rat snakes are native to the area; it just seems I don't have any on my property :/. But as for actually targeting the gophers, idk about that.

releasing captive bred snakes into the wild to cure a gopher problem, especially if they are nonnative, is about the dumbest idea I've heard in a long time.
