Have you ordered snakes online?
Hi everyone :)
I'm looking into ordering a specific snake online, simply because I cannot find it locally.
I'm curious - have you ordered online? How was the experience? Can you recommend a specific site or breeder?
One in particular that I'm curious about right now is http://www.bigappleherp.com/ - they have exactly what I want, but most of the reviews I've found are fairly old and mainly for hardware.
Feedback would be appreciated! :snake:

I ordered from BHB - (one of) my kingsnake came from there. Happy, healthy, snake and a fast, easy, process and kind of freaked out the fed-ex guy. Win/Win/Win.

Re: Have you ordered snakes online?
90% of my collection was purchased online, the key is to buy from reputable breeders.
Big Apple Herp are not breeders they are an online petstore.
If you want to buy from a breeder you can check Morph Market and than the BOI to check the breeder 's rep same goes for Big Apple Herp

Great advice, Deborah - this is exactly why I wanted to ask. I'll definitely check out Morph Market.
Thank you!

Big Apple Herp doesn't stock animals they primarily drop ship. I've dealt with them before for equipment. For critters I purchase direct from the breeder.
Also I wrote this up a while back: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...g-Herps-Online

Re: Have you ordered snakes online?
What morph are you looking for? You don't have to answer if you want it to be a surprise lol
I have bought 3 of my bps locally, well it was a little bit of a drive for 2 of them. I'm getting a fourth in a week and it will be shipped from Garrick from royal constrictor designs. For my first online order for a snake he definitely made me feel really comfortable with my purchase and talked with me for quite some time about different pairing options and all the information about her. He even offers his cell for after hour calls which was a plus bc of my work schedule. I haven't received the snake yet but so far his customer service is A+++. If you want to see if he has what your looking for take a look at his site. Here is the link.

Just make sure you do your homework on the breeder and make sure they are reputable. Some of those reputable breeders even belong to this forum and respond to posts everyday.

All of my snakes were purchased online.

All but one of my snakes have been purchased online. That one was my Banana boy, Arlirr - I got him from a local guy who bought him at Petsmart and decided that BP's weren't the snake for him.
Three are from TriReptiles. I've been pleased with all of them, though the last one didn't have a 'live animal' sticker on the box, which I wasn't happy about.
Two are from OutbackReptiles, and I was quite pleased with that transaction.
Two, including my Kingsnake, are from BHB. I had a second Kingsnake who I purchased from them at the same time. She turned out to have an internal defect, and died, but I do not think there was any way for them to have known that when I bought her, and I don't consider them in any way responsible. Sometimes, it just happens.
And one is from an individual on here, though she's not in my signature yet, since she's still with him!
There really aren't any local breeders here. Not for BP's at, least - that I've found. I know one guy who breeds Retics, and his partner breeds Burmese, but she is just starting to get into BP's - in fact, I think I actually have more than she does, from what I was told. While amazing animals, Retics and Burmese are just much bigger than I want to try and house or feed.

I have space for one more snake - and to be honest, what I'm hunting for is not a ball python. I have 5 balls, one corn and one king at the moment. I'm actually looking for a black milk snake, but in all actuality, I'll probably end up with another ball :D I do love them.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with RCD - I'll take a look there, too!
This helps a lot for my future purchases. Though there are a lot of reptile shops here in Tucson, they never seem to have the specific snake I'm looking for; so it's nice to get an idea of quality breeders that ship.

I love BHB, I've been watching their show over the past month and trying to get caught up :) They were one of the first ones I considered.
Thanks for the additional experience information! Outback is new to me, as is Tri - I'll have to take a peek at what they have!

Unfortunately RCD doesn't carry milk snakes but plenty of bps and a few other species but no milk snakes. It's still worth a look though, you never know you might stumble across something you just need lol that's what happened to me and 60 days and $1000 later....I don't have it yet but I know she was worth every penny.
Good luck with your search!

Re: Have you ordered snakes online?
I have purchased all of my ball pythons online through Facebook auctions (Ben Siegel Reptiles, Gourmet Rodent, Loxahatchee Herp Hatchery) and contacting businesses through Facebook pages with good results. Just make sure that they're reputable breeders.
-
Both of mine were purchased on line. It's best to check out the seller on the BOI prior to making a purchase. Here's a link:

I got my Carpet via an online classifieds ad on kingsnake.com

If you are looking for a black milk keep an eye out for Isis Reptiles posting them. I bought mine from them and she's great. My biggest concern when buying a black milk was that it wouldn't actually be one. But mine has gone through the color change:D

That's something I've worried about, too! Thanks :D

I plan to buy my snake online, have bought many fish online over the past several years. As long as you go through a reputable seller who knows how to pack a box correctly you'll be just fine.
-
I found their ad on kingsnake and I've seen them post more since I bought mine.
Out of 27 I have only bought 3 of my snakes in person. I've never had a problem with any of the others when they were shipped. Just check out their reputation and if they don't have many reviews or are new ask them a lot of questions about their packaging, who they use to ship etc. If you don't get a good feeling from the answers then just don't buy!
-
Bought all 3 of mine on line. My corn came from a breeder. My first BP came from IBall pythons, he is in Westchester, NY. He was very easy to work with. I met him at a local show, and i fell in love with this boy, but had no set up ready, so for the health of the animal, he kept him for me a few weeks till my set up and temps were stable, then shipped him to me. It was a pleasure working with him. I Got my girl from Mike Willbanks, constrictos unlimited, They run reptile ring, an auction site, If they don't have one being auctioned you like, contact them direct and tell them what you are looking for. My expairience with them was very nice.
-
Bought two of my three on-line. (Planning another for later this Summer.) Both excellent experiences, and the breeders in both cases had established credibility. In my experience, on-line is about the only way to get quality stock in uncommon animals. Good sources can be few and far between; my favourite breeder for fish is in Hawaii, and the only fish importer I trust is a guy in the Mid-west who hosts weekly on-line auctions. I don't go to shows.
Honestly, I would stay away from BigApple. Besides not being breeders, in the one transaction I know of (cornsnake forum), the snake does seem to have been mis-represented, and they gave the buyer an endless run-around.
The only hassle with on-line orders is that you do have to be home for FedEx.

Re: Have you ordered snakes online?
Got my first at a petco in 08 (dealt with the mite scenario..)
2nd one bought in Michigan At a Royal oak reptile expo from Carl Aiken (my big Mojave girl)
3rd was 2 weeks ago from Garrick at Royal Constrictor Designs (my male killerblast)
Tomorrow I'm ordering 3 more from Garrick a male and 2 females.
Garrick is top notch.

I second the OP checking to see if Garrick has what they are looking for. I got my female pastave from him and had the same great experience you are having. Super helpful and friendly guy.
I bought my lemonblast from a breeder called Beach Ball Pythons. I found them through kingsnake.com, but they have their own website also. They were just as awesome as Garrick to deal with.
