Crona, Anery Motley
The other new arrival came in the other day! A male anery motley 66% het albino, born 2/27/16, from Ragin Redtails & Exotics. He's an itty bitty guy, and very very wriggly. lol Unlike the ghost female, he was quite docile when I got him out and didn't strike. He may soon become one of my favorites!
I have yet to weigh him or measure him, but I will do that after he eats and poops.

He's so precious! You have a collection full of cuties :)
-
Crona may have arrived docile, but he seems to be a bit bitey now that he's settled in. lol When I took him out to change his paper towels the day before feeding him (he pooped on them), he was a bit huffy when grabbing him. I held the hide over his face and grabbed him, and he struck once or twice when I got him.
The same was true when I got him out today. He was a bit strikey the whole time. He REALLY doesn't like his tail to be messed with, I tried to get a photo of his tail because it's black on the underside except the tip, but he kept striking at the camera lens. >.> He managed to actually bite me once, but after that the strikes seemed to stop. I think it was partly because my hands were sweaty because it's rather hot out, and he kept sticking to me and couldn't get a good grip, and partly because he's still a nervous baby.
He ate a hopper mouse Monday, so I gave him 2 days to digest and took him out today. :)
It was really hot out so I didn't have him outside for long, but here are some outdoor photos so you can get a better idea of his colors.

Starting to get a little defensive here, but calmed down quickly.

Thanks! I really love motleys, too. I knew I needed to get one!
I took him out a few hours ago and he was really well behaved! I'm wondering if he's just hot during the day even with all the fans and the A/C going....He didn't so much as huff at me, although he is a bit more twitchy and jumpy than Nymeria or Cloud were at that size. It could also be that he was still getting used to the vines I added, they've only been in there since this past Saturday.
Tomorrow is his feeding day, so I probably won't have any more outdoor photos of him until Monday. I might take some during his feeding, though. He's eating a hopper mouse every 10 days, and he currently weighs 82 grams empty.

Crona, Anery Motley
Here are so photos from his third handling. I had to take them on my phone because both camera batteries were dead.
You can see some of the bite marks here. He bit me three times and then didn't bite me again.

OMG those bite marks, what a little jerk; but that face, and that clean clean pattern! He's looking at you and saying, "I'm worth it!"

Re: Crona, Anery Motley
Really neat lookin boa. Nice pick up enjoy.
-
Re: Crona, Anery Motley
Great pickup CTB! That color contrast in him is really working. Grata.
-
Well, Crona has calmed down a lot! The last several handling sessions, he hasn't bit me or struck at me, and the last couple of sessions he didn't even huff at me when I went to grab him. He's also started sleeping in the open again, although he uses his hides he's not in them all the time anymore.

looking good! He's calmed down, i assume? (your hands look distinctively un-torn up)

Re: Crona, Anery Motley
Yup, I haven't been bitten in a long time! He does still give me the occasional huff and has struck at the camera, but I'm not getting bitten. Lol Not that he's bitten me all that much, but it seems we've gotten past that now. Just gotta keep up with handling now.

Last time I weighed Crona, he was 126 grams after a poop, and I've decided to extend his feedings from every 10 days to every 12-14 days. He's growing quite nicely so I'm not so worried about feeding him more often any more. He certainly won't hit Nymeria's size at a year (3' and 280-300 grams), but he should at least be Cloud's yearling size (2.5' unknown weight).
I have the entire weekend off so maybe I'll get around to getting pictures of everyone, I've been working a bunch of days in a row because I had asked for 3 days off this weekend to go to the Atlanta show so I haven't had much time for photography. Unfortunately we have to stay home, so I'll just try to use it for snake handling. lol
-
Here are some recent shots of Crona! He looks to have grown since the last time I posted pictures. :P

I'm hoping the sheen I'm seeing on him tonight is predicting a shed cycle to come...The camera doesn't really pick up on it too well but I've noticed a snake's iridescence changes just slightly right before they start to darken and then go blue. Even my sunglow girl Nymeria does it, although her iridescence is mostly pink and purple hues.
-
Well it's almost a month later and no shed, who would have known a motley would throw me through a loop as much as an albino...his light/dark phases are just so different.
I put a photo of him up on SerpWidgets and he's grown another 2"-3" so there should be a shed soon I would assume...
https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5447/3...c99223b7_h.jpg
Finally got a shot of his tail! It's black except for the tip.

Still no shed, last weight was 130 something but that was over a month ago, last weight record was right around 27", taken last month.
I went around and photographed almost everyone tonight, so I could have recent photos. lol Of course, the 3 quarantines came last, and the only one I touched was Crona because I wanted to see if he was going into shed. It's hard to tell but I don't think so. Crona is almost as hard to tell an upcoming shed as an albino...his dark and light phases are just so extreme and his belly is a really light gray so any pinkish hues are hard to see. His dark phases also vary in intensity.
He's in a dark phase in all these photos.

EDIT: what does the anery gene contribute to the pattern?

As far as I know, no, regular motleys don't clean up, and motley combos will act a lot different than a single gene motley will. Some snakes' patterns do become messier though. Howl and Dominika both have more spotting than they did when they were young. They aren't motleys though.
Your motley is a hypo motley which explains the messiness of the pattern. :) That's the hypo influence, so it's possible some of the spotting will go away since hypos change a lot with age, but you'll just have to wait and see.

Crona, Anery Motley
Also my anery motley is maybe a month older than your hypo motley so not much of a difference as far as color changes go.

ahhhh I see!!! sorry im not very familiar with boa morphs yet I plan on learning a lot tho... thank you

He's currently on small adult mice, and they're getting small, but the adult mice I have a size up from this are huge compared to what he's getting now so he's probably going to be on this size for awhile yet.

These are the most recent photos, taken just a few days ago. This time he made a short hiss at me, but was ok once I got him out. Some of my snakes are such drama queens, adorable drama queens, though. Luckily the few prone to hissing rarely ever hiss anymore and when they do they barely get a full breath out (unless in shed).
I tried unsuccessfully to measure him by hand, but he doesn't appear to have grown past 28" yet.

Crona was out and crawling around and in a light phase so I took him out. I'm thinking he may be big enough to move up to the medium mice, I have a few small ones I can try him on first.

Here's some more photos of Crona.
I gave him the smallest of the mediums, and it left no bulge, so next I'll be trying a normal-sized medium. If it seems too big, I'll switch between mediums and small adults until he's big enough to eat them every time.

Crona has grown a decent amount. Last time I measured him, he was 40", and his weight was 453 grams. He's very, very close to moving up to small rats. I gave him a small rat, not last feeding, but the feeding before, to gauge how big of a meal it was. I'm going to give him a little more time, as the meal was large, but I may give him a small rat every 3rd feeding or so, as I usually do when my snakes are in-between feeder sizes.
This is an interesting older photo.
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/k3UmAcP.jpg
His light phase is so gorgeous. He looks like a regular motley in his dark phase.
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/7Za8i50.jpg
He's now too big to comfortably be a bracelet (I'm sure he could still make it work but it takes more effort), so now I get this...
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/N45JiuM.jpg
He's been mostly good about not biting me, but I took him out to change his bedding, and he ended up nailing me when I moved my hand next to his neck. He was flopping around, I suppose from still being hyped up from me untangling his vine. Plus there was food thawing in the kitchen. XD
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/pZjSkFo.jpg
The most recent photo. He's sort of in a dark phase here, but not at his darkest.
