Given a choice to go outside/missing!
New member. We have a 5 year old BP, Crosby (Hockey Fans)...I was cleaning his cage and had him in alternate housing...for a half hour, figuring he wouldn't get out and if so, wouldn't get far.....well he did.
It is unusually hot here in the PNW where we live and some doors were open, some without screens. He is a timid, sweet guy and I would never think he would go far. Do you think he might choose to go outside? We have a really big house (I say that only to demonstrate the difficulty in locating him)! I have looked for hours. I put out lines of flour and thawed fro ro....I am wondering really if he would go outside and also, we have a guinea pig who I moved next to my bed to sleep for fear of untimely situation! Do we think he is in danger? I don't feel like his cage is secure enough for protection!
We truly are so worried. Thank you to anyone who might offer a bit of help!

Normally they don't go far. Think small dark places, smaller than you'd think they could get into. Look in shoes, clothes, behind stoves or refrigerators, in the bottom of small waste baskets. Look for heat sources like behind low down dvd players or gaming systems that give off heat.

    I'd say that aswell ^^^^
More than likely gonna have a little explore and try and find a warm dark spot
As long as the exit isn't next to where he was kept I'd say he's more than likely in the house

I know someone found there bp hidden underneath their boiler not long ago.

Look in warm places. I found my guy 6 feet high cuddled up to a heat vent!

Look up. You would be surprised, sometimes they go against what normal behavior dictates.

Thanks so much for the advice! Still no luck, our guinea pig is in quarantine. Both of my golden retrievers are terrified of the snake, so I don't worry about that much! Pretty much they all want the cute little guinea. Thanks again I will take special care looking up and at warm spots.

Another good place to look for is under the dryer, that's where the previous owner of one of my snakes found her.

Under refrigerators and near computers and laptops as well, more heat sources. Although when I had a BRB she escaped and was found under my bed where there is no heat source. And maybe only a few feet from her tank despite me looking everywhere for her! Good luck.

Argh still no luck! No play on all the flour lines or fro ro's I have around either. Our house has a million hiding places though, and it's in the high 80's so the warm spots are plentiful. We have a lot of crawl space too.....it cools down in a few days so hopefully that sends him out in the open near one of the heat sources (or her, not sure...)!
Question...I feel like the areas the dogs hang out are less likely for her to travel. Do you agree?? I am looking for a good place to keep my guinea pig/cage that Crosby
cannot get into! Currently our dog sits by the guinea cage all day for his own personal reasons :) but I figure that keeps him safe???
Thank you so much for your help. I really am a responsible owner, I underestimated the strength of the BP in his temporary housing.

Still searching. We have a central vacuum system also, and a couple flaps stay open.
Does anyone think a BP would go down one of those?? Since it is a one way so to speak it seems unlikely but I am running out of places to look. The open door I mentioned before was pretty close to her home....less than 10 feet for sure. It is upstairs though and I just can't see her getting out from there.
    thank you.

    thank you.

Its possible I keep a shop vac in the snake room and have had babies get left open and found them in the shop vac hose or in the vac canister itself.. Nothing is off limits when it comes to where they might be.

Great news! Crosby turned up. He is fine, has eaten and had some water, seems fine. He was in a sunny spot on a window sill, I think he smelled the guinea pig and came looking for dinner? All is well. Thanks everyone for your help. No clue where he has been. I do want to mention, my dogs were not a deterrent. We have 3 levels and he was found 10 feet from where the dogs (2 large and very present Golden Retrievers.)
