Recently Got to Visit Second Graders.
A little over a week ago I got to take my adult bp to a second grade class at the school my mother works at to talk about snakes. Jynx made me very proud and the kids seemed to really enjoy the presentation. We have been invited to come back and do more presentations next school year, and that makes me very excited.

It was awesome! The kids even sent my mom home with a really cute thank you card for me and Jynx a couple of days later.

That's so awesome :D I've been trying to do this for a while but where I am the schools are so full of rules and regulations and they are so afraid of being sued that they won't let you do any sort of educational programs involving animals. It's a real bummer. I'm so glad you got to do this and the children enjoyed it :D

That is SO cool. I'm kind of jealous of your experience :P How adorable that they even sent a card home - love it <3 Sounds like Jynx was an absolute gem. Hopefully one day I can do something like this for my niece or nephew's class once Valentine is an adult =) thanks for sharing

    Great job!

I LOVE to hear about visits like this. I teach middle school... it is SO important to find ways to keep it fresh for the kids.

One visit from a person with a snake can ignite a child to consider becoming a veterinarian, a zoologist, a reptile expert etc.

Also, it nurtures the hobby and educates kids on the different types of snakes. The kids will come away from this knowing more about snakes than most of their parents :)

AND whats best, is some of these kids will remember your visit forever. They may not remember everything that you said, but they will remember how the visit made them feel. (Let's hope none of them were terrified by the snake LOL :)
    :)

Thank you so much for sharing your time with the kids :)

I love things like this and I always did as a kid too. When animals came to class it was my absolute favorite. I remember taking a field trip to the nature center where we all got to touch a bull snake. I'll never forget it!

It's great that you got the opportunity to do this! :)

They were all really good about it! Even the ones that were scared at the start eventually warmed up and pet him.

Re: Recently Got to Visit Second Graders.
I live in San Jose Ca and I do between 200 and 300 educational reptile presentations per year at schools libraries and birthday parties all over the San Francisco Bay Area. If you've ever considered trying to make some extra money while going to school you might want to consider doing reptile presentations professionally. I started out about 20 years ago doing free educational programs at my children's school, one day a mother of one of my son's classmates called me up and told me how much fun her son had during one of my presentations and wondered if I would come over to her son's next birthday party to share my cold blooded friends, of course I said because as you know doing these programs is a blast. The next question changed my life forever when she asked how much would I charge, even though I told her I would be glad to do it for free. She was persistent and insisted on paying me, so I said how about $100. She accepted and before you knew it I was getting phone calls from other parents asking me to do a presentation at their child's birthday party, this is how For Goodness Snakes Adventures was born. Like I said I now do between 200 and 300 reptile presentations per year at schools, libraries and birthday parties. I'm living my dream and living very comfortably in San Jose, this is what I do for a living.

If you'd like to get more information on my programs please check out my web site at http://www.for-goodness-snakes.com/a...res/index.html

email me at fgsnakes@sbcglobal.net or call me at 408-981-6694 if you'd like to pursue this. I don't charge anything and am glad to help people that share this passion of reptiles. I'm also a ball python breeder with over 200 ball pythons.

I have helped reptile people just like you all over the country to realize the potential of this unique business opportunity. As long as you don't live in the Bay Area I'm glad to share all that I know about doing these presentations.

I look forward to hearing from you.
