What would YOU pair with him?
I have a young male banana pinstripe yellowbelly. He is my first ball python and I had no intention of breeding him when I purchased him, but dang! all of you breeders make it look so appealing! I still don't plan on breeding him, but I have been looking around at some females for my second snake just in case I change my mind in the future ;) I've been leaning towards a pied, possibly a pastel pied. So just out of curiosity, my question is: if this little beauty was yours, what would you pair with him?

I'm a huge fan of pandoras which is what I am aiming for (butter banana). Also really like the looks of banana GHI. You should also not expect any banana females unless you specifically bought a female maker which I doubt cause they are more expensive. I also think pics are in order :)

The following genes mix the best with banana imo; mojave, cinnamon/black pastel, enchi, orange dream, clown and pied. Take your pick :P

Thinking about it though it really depends on what you want in the offspring. From the pinstripe in your male it makes me think you prefer the yellow so I'd maybe lean more towards like an OD enchi or maybe even just a pied girl if you weren't looking to spend too much.

burm, woma, blood python, take your pic see if that "only produces males" thing carries over to another species ;)

I'm sure he's a male maker, I was solely looking for a pet when I purchased him. I just wanted a banana and of course the little show I went to had only him and a cinnamon banana which was more expensive. But who knows, it's possible the little fella could surprise me with a little female if I decided to breed [emoji6]
I would only ever breed just for the hobby/as a little experiment anyway, not expecting any profit.

I am definitely a fan of the bright yellows and lighter colored snakes, and of course pieds. I'm not necessarily looking for advice on what to breed, I'm just curious what others would choose. [emoji4]

I appreciate all the feedback! It's nice to get insight on what other people prefer in ball morphs and it also opens my eyes to morphs/pairings I haven't even thought of or heard of!

As much as I would love a burm, I'm a 5 foot 100 pound female.. I'm strong, but not that strong [emoji12]
Plus I'm pretty sure a ball and burm won't mix, although I did see a ball and a woma mix called a "wall" or something like that.

These abominations do exist. Pictures are an easy Goggle search.

[emoji50] what!? I thought it was such a ludicrous statement, I didn't even bother to do a Google search. Plus it sounded a little too sarcastic to believe lol
My apologies, BFE Pets. I stand corrected, you really do learn something new everyday on here.

It's not a crime to actually make a profit breeding ball pythons, not sure why people always jump and say they are not in the hobby to make money. In my opinion you should be thinking about both your favorite combos and what will bring in some money to at least cover your time and feed costs or at least break even so you can really enjoy your hobby without breaking the bank. You could breed to a pied but your offspring will be all het pied, only a few possibilities with that, and you'll have to wait about five or six years to actually produce a pied if you decide to breed back the het pieds. Although the het pieds may increase the price of your babies.

Personally I'd probably get a three gene combo to breed with him. What is your budget? Here's one sub $400 with three additional genes that you don't have. That would give you six genes in your breeding program with some nice bright yellow colors and you could possibly get a five or six gene snake out of the deal:

PASTEL / FIRE / SPIDER FEMALE

Here's the cross possibilities, you could breed this pair for ten years and not get all the possible combos, it would be a nice long term project with just one pair of snakes:

Re: What would YOU pair with him?
Thanks cchardwick! I wasn't saying that making a profit is a bad thing at all, I hope I didn't offend..in fact I wish I could make enough profit breeding animals so I could quit my day job [emoji14] I was just trying to get my point across that I didn't care about genetics when I purchased my snake (other than him being a banana morph) and I wouldn't care if he produced males rather than females even though they are generally sold for less. I'm trying to be realistic that I wouldn't make a profit by breeding one snake and I'm okay with that. (And if I did make a profit, it would be that much more exciting!) In my opinion, if a hobbyist (not so much a big time breeder/business) cared more about the money than producing beautiful little creatures, they're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Holy cow that is a lot of different outcomes! And what a good looking snake too, I love the contrast. I don't think my novice eye could differentiate half of those lol that's why I'd like to stick to a single or two gene animal, to make deciphering the morph easier. But you make a very good point having so many possibilities would make for a more exciting season each year, if I were to catch the bug and continue to breed. I really appreciate your input, there's so much to think about, thank you!
