For those who use Herpstat, which model is sufficient?
I'm looking at either the Herpstat 1 Redline, Herpstat 1 Basic, Herpstat intro, or Herpstat intro +. It's going to be for a single tub so nothing too fancy, but was wondering what would be best for a UHP?

I'd go with the Herpstat 1. It's a couple more dollars, but includes safety features that the others do not.

Do you mean the Redline or just the Herpstat 1? Or would either work?

    Thanks!

If you like the color, go for the Redline. If not, the two are identical in function.

Okay! Also, do you hook up the thermostat to the UHP similar you would do flexwatt or is it easier?

I got the Redline purely because they are identical and it was a little lower in price. You can turn off the red glowing light, if you don't like it. I did. The display is still red, but it doesn't bother me at all.

UHP = UTH (under tank heater), correct? Just making sure...

If so, it's pretty much the same. You sandwich the Herpstat probe between the heater and the bottom of the enclosure, which makes sure it stays in contact with the heat source and is able to control it without outside influence.

Yup, Ultratherm Heat Pad! Is there a cord or hole you attach it with your thermostat? I'm just curious to see how it would control the temp.

And it the Herpstat does have day/night cycle right?

The heat pad plugs into the thermostat, which the plugs into the wall. The probe, which is in contact with the heat pad, plugs into the thermostat which increases or decreases power to the pad based in the temperature of the probe.

Yes, the Herpstat has a day/night cycle option. It's not a feature that gets used very often for ball pythons though.

    Okay thanks!
Last thing, would it be smart to use some sort of tile where you can then put the UHP on top of that or would that be kinda bad?

Reptile Basics recommends setting the enclosure on a hard surface to allow the heat to dissipate under the heater when in use. If you need to shim it or use tiles to raise it up a bit to help air flow, then go for it.

I have a herpstat 1 but i really wish i had spent the extra money for the Herpstat 2, because my collection is unexpectedly expanding (haha) . I would have saved some money and an electrical outlet which i never seem to have enough of. Other members have shared there experience with other brands of thermostats if your looking for a cheaper alternative for just one tub. If there is a possibility of expanding, and you have the money you might want to get a herpstat 2.

Depending on what type of setup you have. I have 2 tanks, so I got a Herpstat 4, 2 for heating pads, 2 for heat panels. Honestly i wish I waited a little while because I would get a 6 so I could either have humidity probes, or a free slot to use to turn on a fan if the snake room gets too hot. Maybe i'll use a surge protector to connect 2 heat panels together to free up the slot for the fan.

Anyways... I would honestly go no less than 2, redline 2 isnt much more expensive and you'll be kicking yourself later if you make any additions to your setup or your collection

Re: For those who use Herpstat, which model is sufficient?
I bought the Herpstat 6 to replace on/off thermostats and dimmers and then I filled that up and then bought a used Herpstat Pro (older style 4 zone stat) and have that filled with all but 1 zone. I also have 4 VE thermostats and one will be in use soon. Now I'm buying used thermostats so I have backups just in case something fails and I have to send it for repair. I wouldn't get anything less then the Herpstat 1 bc it has the safety relay but no matter what you get I would highly recommend buying a new or used back up just in case and if you add to your collection make sure you have a back up for each thermostat or zone your using. You of course don't need to get back ups but it will put you in a tuff spot if it does fail.

How does everyone setup their Herpstats? Do you use the Heat (Dimming) or Heat (Pulse)?

    Dimming (or Proportional)
