First clutch update(miracle zombie baby!) + possible hard belly?
Well, I'm glad I didn't toss the 7 dead eggs in the trash. I separated the live babies and the dead ones into different bins last night with plans to cut the bad ones open and examine them tonight. My boyfriend pointed out a tiny head poking out of one of the supposedly dead ones! :O I'd poked each and everyone one last night and was sure they were all gone. So 6 babies of the 12 are now alive and squirming. :)
Now I'm concerned about the two little ones that crawled out of their eggs today. I rinsed them off, weighed them(44 and 46 grams) and set them up on moist paper towel to shed. Both have distended, somewhat lumpy bellies. I've seen Justin Kobylka's video on how to remove it, BUT - as a first timer, do I attempt myself? Take them to the vet?
Does this look right at all?

I don't know much about the swollen bellies, but I do love the miracle zombie baby!!
-
Very happy for you a sixth little worm has made it!
about hard belly, I am not sure how to recognise it in all honesty, I have seen cutting video's and babies crawl out with full bellies.
Is the belly just full or does it also have somewhat of a massive feel to them?
let's hope some of the more experienced people chime in soon.
-
Two more crawled out today. Another butter spinner and a normal. The butter spinner also has a full belly. What's throwing me off is that they're a bit lumpy. Not sure if I'm overreacting or not.
The normal has definite issues, though. His siblings crawled out with fully absorbed yolks and weighing in between 44-46 grams. He left most of his yolk behind, has a narrow head, and weighs only 32 grams.
-
If it's soft and squishy just leave them, they will absorb what's in their belly. It's only an issue if it's hard and solid feeling.
-
-
So the last babies have come out of their eggs - looks like a little pastel and a butter pin.
While the rest absorbed all of their yolks, the normal and the pastel left much of theirs behind and are runts - the normal especially. 32 and 38 grams. Do I get them on feed sooner? Smaller prey size?
-
post some updated pics when you can of the clutch!
-
It's sort of silly how happy it makes me to hear about your little-snakes-that-could! I hope you keep posting updates and pics!
-
Yeah, try to offer the ones that didn't absorb the yolk a small mouse/rat pup, if they don't want to eat maybe try a assist feed just to get something in them.

Ok, I'll attempt tomorrow. Thank you!
-
Fed the two runts mouse pinkies. Assisting failed numerous times, so I had to force them down gently, but it went easier expected.
The others are doing well. Will post pictures when I get some time. It's been a stressful week!
-
Haha yeah I believe you!
ok I think you should leave them alone for now ( the 2 runts) and maybe of they are not in shed next week try to offer a prey item again.
-
Yes, they're in their own tubs, curled up on the heat now. :) Hopefully next week is less of a hassle feeding!

Thank you, it's all been worth it!
Here are a few pics until I can get some
proper portraits of the babies all shed out.
the runtiest of the runts. I really hope this teeny weenie makes it and is someone's beloved pet one day. My big normal male is still my favourite snake to this day.

Miracle zombie baby out of the egg. Butter pin? Pastel butter pin?

Loved this precious little face right before his assist-feed.

Very tempted! I'm tempted to keep each of them for various reasons. I'm going to be the worst snake breeder:rofl:

Nice babies,
I would probably end up keeping the zombie baby, just because it's a little survivor
-
I agree, I had the same thoughts :)

Re: First clutch update(miracle zombie baby!) + possible hard belly?
All babies have shed. The four larger babies all ate their first meal offerings. The two runts are still refusing all offerings and assist-feed attempts. I have force fed them both twice relatively easily, but am really hoping not to have to again.
Did a quick test shoot of their colours against a black background. Need to build a light tent!
Bucket of busy babies:

Not 100% sure of the morphs, but reasonably sure after their sheds.
Everyone is active, curious, and friendly. The tiny normal girl is active, but not as much as her clutchmates. Fingers still crossed.

Absolutely beautiful! All of them are!
Keep up the good work! It should pull through.

Gorgeous snakes! The others will catch on eventually and will catch up to their siblings. Keep up the good work :)

Amazing news: I'd thawed a mouse for my baby carpet, but decided to offer to the tiny normal girl first for the heck of it. She took it!! :O I'm in shock - she went from two forcefed meals straight to taking her own frozen thawed meal. So happy right now. :)

Wow what a gorgeous bunch, they are progressing so nicely! Glad little normal bae ate for you. :D
-
Adorable little ones! I echo everyone's opinions to keep the zombie baby. I actually read this thread in reverse and thought I would keep him if I were you before even finding out that he was the one. Good looking bunch, congrats!

Awww, so pretty little snakes :P
