    I Did It Again!
Hello, my name is Butterball Python, and I have a confession to make. I have a reptile addiction.

I see an especially nice reptile out there, and something just takes over. Yesterday I read a thread on this board about Morphmarket, so, of course, that had to be checked out. There was this lovely champagne female ball python on there...I don't need a second snake, but she's oh so pretty...I e-mailed and she's available. My butter male is the result of a nuclear champagne x normal cross, and there just happened to be a really pretty picture of a butter champagne that could result from such a pairing on the morph calculator. The pet store just happened to have heat mats on sale...Wally World just happened to have a plastic tub the right size...and my fingers just happened to type an I want her e-mail back to the seller. I will be really disappointed if someone else gets her first. There's a large room in the house dedicated just to geckos...I spend a large part of my time cleaning up after and caring for them, and more time on reptile boards...and now ball pythons, too...I need a 12 step program but don't really want one.

    You can probably relate.

Hi butterball, welcome to RA, Reptiles Anonymous. I too fell victim to the addiction when I adopted my first BP in early april, and I already am planning on getting a 2nd one this summer.

welcome, Butterball. I can so relate, last year I got my first BP Ryuu and fell in love with her. Then this other person e-mailed me saying they can't take care of their snake anymore, well it was their son's BP but he went off to collage and couldn't take him with, etc. and now this year I decided to rescue another snake off Craigslist... Then I got my boa..then this girl contacted me... needless to say she did not know how to take care of her three BPs... Sadly, one was in so bad of a shape it died, but the other two are doing well.
Now I'm like.."GEMME ALL YOUR UNWANTED BALL PYTHONS I WILL LOVE THEM" and eventually want a recluded or burmese..
    I may need help...

*Gulp* It started with crested geckos, then a pair of leopard geckos that someone on Craigslist was giving away. I picked the leopard geckos up next to a dumpster and adopted them so another person wouldn't try feeding them to a snake. They are now fat and happy. Then came the bearded dragon, followed the chahoua, and now ball pythons. And they're a gateway snake??? Maybe you can't have too many reptiles, only houses that are too small.

It's good to hear that there are other people out there who do the same sort of thing. :) And I hear you on wanting to rescue them all, but it's not possible for one person to do that. We all probably do our share. :) They're fascinating animals, and addicting!

OK, here's a link to her picture, now that I've paid for her and nobody else can get her. :P She is the one who launched this whole tirade on my part. I've been looking at champagnes on line for over a week wanting one for my next bp, and then saw that thread on new hatchlings with some champagnes in the clutch besides, and, well, I just don't resist temptation that well.

    What do you think?

As long as you have the funds for new equipment, rodents, possible vet bills, and thermostats for all your heat devices then feed that addiction!

I do. I would not bring an animal home without the space, equipment, and food. And there's a good reptile vet 10 minutes away.

Edited to add: She'll be here on Thursday.

Congrats! And that looks like a really special reptile at a extraordinary price. Good deal. Don't forget your quarantine practice though. :)

LOL, they're arriving 2 weeks apart. After that, it's no more snakes for me for at least a few years. As I breed cresties I'm re-homing the ones that aren't what I want to keep and breed, and don't want to get more animals than I can care for properly. I have 21 adult crestie cages, and 3 of the 21 cages have never even been assembled. That's what fits on the racks. Another post I made in this thread probably made it sound like I'm drowning in animals, but that was just exaggeration for the sake of humor. Reptiles are not high-maintenance pets. There's a spot in the reptile room for a 3 snake rack once they're out of quarantine and a crestie that's been promised is re-homed, so there will be 1 spot left over that will probably not be filled. A lot of time gets spent in the gecko room.

I have too much to learn before going any further into bps. The new bp will probably be named Bubbles, for the little bubbles on her spine. And you'll probably be seeing more of me on the forum as I learn more about these animals. It's an addiction! :)
