Help! Cut this egg or not?
We're on day 53. The eggs have softened up quickly over the last two days. This egg had a few tiny specs of mold on it the last two days, which have now spread in a few short hours. The baby was moving yesterday when I candled. Would cutting it help or hinder at this point?

Cut it you could've cut on day 50

If I cut one, do I cut the rest while I'm at it? My biggest concern is anything spreading to the other eggs.

Sure and if they are naturally due to pip at day 60, that means being exposed to bacteria and the possibility of drying out for the next 10 days before they finally emerge.

Cutting if done should not be done lightly ideally if you know the temps and the average at which clutches are set to hatch (based on previous clutches incubated at the same temps) you can cut 2 to 3 days prior but in all honesty doing it once the first one pips is even better. Anything done sooner is a lot riskier and unecessary.

So should I leave this egg and hope for the best?

I should add the egg was very flattened out. Not sure if it's molding because the baby lost room to develop and died or what.

Yes cut the egg and if you're scared itll spread set another egg box just for the infected one

That's the thing I'm confused about - if it died because it didn't have anymore room to develop, do I cut the rest to help them or is the mold coming from an external source that will kill the rest if I cut them. GAH:confusd:

And I'm not saying I know if the baby died or not. Just a guess?

When are they due to pip? What is the temp in your incubator?

Between 88.5 and 90 the whole time. I have two different probes reading two different things.

They're due in 7 days. I have a feeling they're close since the shells have softened in the last 2 days.

I would leave them alone and cut the other eggs after the first baby pips.

Your price is way too high you need to cut it

Ok, thank you. I'll wait it out a bit longer. Would it be worthwhile to sprinkle some anti-fungal powder in the meantime?

I don't know, I just candled and they're so severely dented that I can't see anything anymore, except a few veins. If there are live babies in there, I'm afraid they'll be deformed. Seems some of the eggs aren't that soft still either.

I WOULD NOT cut and expose it to the mold, personally.

    Hey,

I really cant tell you what to do as I have no experience yet, I can tell you what I would do, and that is follow what the experienced people are saying.

you are afraid they all might be deformed, if they are cutting now has no use but cutting now could make things worse on the healthy babies.

I think I would wait till the first one pips or at least untill day 58 or so

It's never safe to cut into a egg prior to the first hatchling pipping. There are so many things that can go wrong. It's a 60 day incubation for a reason even though most hatchlings emerge prior to 60 days based on incubation temps and internal egg genetic problems. Simple mold can safely be sprinkled with antifungal powder though. Day 55 seems to be the consensus if cutting is the only alternative without seeing pipping of the siblings.

Thank you for your advice, guys. I'm pretty frustrated trying to figure these babies out, so I've been panicking. Thanks for talking me down off the ledge ;)

Day 54: 5 of the 12 eggs are now molding. No smell yet. I sprinkled them with the powder and put them back.

Mine bad going eggs started to smell about their third/fourth week. And plus you don't have that odd greenish colour so I think so far so good. I wish you luck

Day 55: the mold has spread to a 6th egg, so the anti-fungal powder doesn't appear to be helping. I assume there's nothing more I can do but continue to wait?

Shockingly neither! Lol. I did cut one that had a large enough slit to see the baby peeking out at me. It looked like the butter spin blast we were hoping for, so I cut just enough to get a better look. If the rest haven't pipped by tonight, I may cut then.

5 of the 12 have now pipped. This one was poking its head out this morning:

Cut the rest tonight. Only five of twelve made it.:( The ones that didn't appear to have been mostly developed. Two must've died within the last week as they were dried out. The rest must've died in the last few days. I'll dissect the eggs tomorrow to get a better idea what happened.

Five survivors. Here are the three others I didn't get pictures of earlier:

Thanks guys. It was pretty bittersweet cutting open those eggs and seeing perfect little babies that didn't make it, but I'm over the moon about my little worms that did hatch. They were poking their snoots out again before I left for work this morning. I'll post more when they make their way out.
