    Jewel 2016.
The Coastal mutt is now 6 foot 1 inch and a month shy of 3 years old.

When she wants to eat, she will take 1 pound plus rabbits. She is picky and isn't a great eater, or at least a frequent eater.

I'm still not sure what makes up her "mutt" status. I've been told diamond, jungle and even Darwin mixed in with the coastal.

No matter, she is a fun and VERY pleasant snake. After our initial introductions 2 years ago complete with biting and squirming, she has settled in and I can't even get her to bite me now.

This is what she looks like now.

I like her coloring and am not at all bothered by the "browning out".

Although in the sun she looks exceptionally bright, in reality she looks nothing like an animal that was selectively bred for color. She just IS what she is.

I really want to add another carpet of some kind in the future!

Very beautiful "mutt" you have there. I am enjoying my young carpets but I can't wait for them to get big. Even if she is a picky eater she definetly look healthy and happy to me.

    Thanks.

She is very healthy. Actually I think snakes that regulate their own diets are probably some of the healthiest snakes of all. The snakes that live 25-40 years are more than likely snakes that were never overfed.

Your carpets will grow. Enjoy them small and feisty!

I was at the reptile store grabbing some food today. I saw a beautiful jungle. Inky blacks and bright yellows!

You will end up with good sized animals soon.

Make sure you set them up in nice display cages when you can. Carpets are just perfect for showing off.

Ordered one AP T12 on 3/19/16 with a divider that I will put the two in and if like it as much as I'm sure I will I will order another one. I just love these creatures.

Gio, I hope by now you know how much I love Jewel.😍

All I can say is that she looks beautiful as always! And you and Jewel have nothing to apologize for as far as pedigree or coloring.

Jewel is a real gem Gio :). I have a "mutt" of my own and her imperfections don't bother me one bit either. She's healthy, super sweet, and she eats well. I love her for who she is ;). Your girl is beautiful and pretty nicely sized too. I'm excited to see mine get that large.

    I will say this.

I am NOT a morph type of guy. I actually am far more interested in what snakes look like in their natural environment. I don't think this particular carpet is typical for a "wild type" but I'm not looking for anything especially stunning either. A locality animal of any species is what I like or at least something that would thrive if released back into it's own environment.

This carpet comes from very typical looking coastal parents as far as I know.

There may be some diamond influence in one of the parents but these are nothing special.

I'm not at all disappointed with my girl. The only complaint I have would be her picky eating habits.

Thanks for the nice words all of you!

You know it seems to me that when considering getting a particular snake, and without having hands on experience with any of the choices, the morph, color, or whatever, is important in deciding on the particular individual you end up selecting. But once you have the animal the most important factor by far is that it is a good and stable individual temperament wise, it's healthy and a good and consistent eater. If it meets that criteria I then know I have chosen an animal that will be a joy to raise and interact with for many years, hopefully. Just my two cents. [emoji55]

    I agree.

Its what YOU and ONLY you want.

We all have our ideal pet. I like the fact people have different tastes and preferences.

It keeps things fun and interesting!
