    Snakes in tubs?
I see people with hot hides and cool hides and some with just hot hides. Do I really need a cool hide? I just moved my BP last night into a tub and I do have a hot hide and a cool hide.

Depends on the ball python. But if the tub is an appropriate size, just a hot side one should be fine.

Ok thank you! He's 156g in a 25qt sterilite it's about 24"L x 12"W x 6"T and I have an 11"x11" Utlratherm UTH and it covers half the floor space. I thought that was a little too big so I ordered a 11"x6" to give him a larger cooler spot. I have a few small fake plants from Michael's in there to clutter.

no just one hide will be enough. Some don't even use it

The tub is more or less a hide as it is. Really depends on the snake, if it seems stressed/not feeding throwing a hide in there isn't a bad idea.

I always offer two hides. Some use both, some don't. I let the snakes decide.

Unless there is just no room, and the tub is in a rack I only have one hide. For most of mine I still have two, especially for the pick eaters. I think it helps. If the tub is out and exposed, I'd have two all the time.

Depends on the snake..... I only use one hide in my racks if at all.

I give them one. If the snake doesn't want the hide on the heat they push it off anyway.

Thank y'all for the help. I noticed today he may be ready to move a size up, looks like he's spilling out of his small hide.

I think it depends on the rack system. I see a lot of people get clear tubs for their racks, that makes the snakes feel insecure so then you have to add hides. Getting clear tubs kind of defeats the purpose of the rack system if you ask me, a rack system is designed to make things simple with just a water bowl and nothing to wash when cleaning (like hides, decorations, etc..). Go with a solid grey tub and the whole interior will be dark, just like a huge hide. Then the snake will feel comfortable and won't need a hide at all. If you have clear tubs you may need two hides.

    Re: Snakes in tubs?
The tub is actually in a piece of wooden furniture that I've customized to be like a little room so I could easily heat it up in the winter without raising my home temps, so it's pretty dark in there. I moved him in there this past Friday and his feeding is tonight. So hopefully he'll eat, if not oh well I'll try again Friday. BTW no rack just because I went back to school to finish my PT and I don't need to feed this addiction with empty tubs....not right now at least.:)

Well he just swallowed his meal. Guess I can rest easy that he's happy with the move.

Well shoot. I guess I'd better go return all of my Animal Plastics EP racks with clear Vision tubs! ;)

Some of mine are in clear Vision tubs (like the above), and some are in solid gray ARS tubs (not pictured). All of my hatchlings are in the clear tubs right out of the gate. Regardless of tub color, if an animal prefers the security that a hide provides, they get it. If not, they don't. Simple as that. :)

My rack is enclosed on three sides and I use clear tubs and none of my snakes have hides and all eat and are temp controlled with no problemhttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...186ea9c1c8.jpg
