Breedig question
Could a female breed at around 800-900 grams shes big enough for med rats
-
1200 is the absolute smallest I would go. And for a first time breeder, I recommend at least 1500 grams and 3rd winter.

Re: Breedig question
Ok i was thinking about about breeding this year so she should be to size

It's a question of weight and age, this is not a race take your time, do you want to breed and get 2 or 3 eggs? Do you want to breed and risk your female's health?
As a minimum I would suggest at least 2 years of age and 1500 grams but really the bigger the better.
Sure you can breed smaller females 1000/1100 but those to me are special case of female that are 4 years or more have remained small and that I would breed to kick start their appetite.
I wonder what's next breed at 600 grams, seems like breeding weight is getting lower by the year?

Re: Breedig question
If you REALLY want to breed asap, go out and buy a big proven female. Don't rush your girl.

As easy as that is to say, it can be a long time coming between where she's at now and 1500 grams.
I've had females blow conventional wisdom out of the park and grow like crazy. I've also had females hit that 1000 gram wall like a freight train and tease me for months on end as all of the other girls their age were starting to get paired up.
Ultimately, they are the ones who decide when they're ready. :gj:

Could she? Maybe.
Should she? Hell no, and it would be foolish to try. Rules of thumb get that way for a reason.

I have started small but that is too small imo. The smallest female ive started pairing was 1,100g. She ended up laying 4 eggs.

If she's that old, I might be willing to give it a try. But only if she was carrying genes I needed for a project. If she was a Normal, she'd just be a pet.
Of course, your mileage will vary.

I am new to breeding myself having just picked up a 1.8tg lesser girl because, being frank, I was too impatient to wait until my girls here are up to weight.
She will be paired with mymbutter male but not until next season giving him l, e ty of time to get to a good weight too.
Having seen pics of some of the monster clutches produced by people this last cup lemony ear, I would never dream of a female breeding under 1.5kg it just not worth he risk to me personally xx
