what female morph would you buy if you wanted to start breeding Ball Pythons
:)Hi, I have a male Banana Ball and I have a five year plan to have a breeding colony in Kansas. My question is what kind of female morph do suggest starting with to breed to a male banana. Banana is co-dominant, so it would probably have to be Dom or Co Dom trait to bring out the koolest morphs i can. You can send pictures if you what to. thanks very much. I promise ill have more questions in the future.:)

Mojave, enchi, OD, pied, black pastel and clown are all really nice when bred to banana

I would love to breed my own pastel banana clown one day after seeing a pic here earlier so that would be my starting point :) xx

I'm actually looking into banana pastels for my female Pinstripe. So pinstripe or lemon blast I would say personally. As said about mojave or enchi, maybe a lesser. They will be beautiful, whatever he produces.

I've decided my next BP will be a banana mochi (enchi/mojave). So breed those! :P

No, really, decide what you like best and there seems to be a steady demand for. It's different for everyone.

Regardless of the male you have now I would buy female recessive, hypo, clown, pied and tri-tripe those projects might take longer but will pay off and maintain their value.

I would vote clown or bamboo. Well let me rephrase. About half my collection are clowns or het clowns, and the rest are all slated to have some het clown babies. I can't wait to make a bamboo clown...

I feel like these questions are always so hard to answer because budget and long term goals are big things to think about when talking about breeding projects.

What is this five year plan roughly? Do you mean you want to have 10-20 ball pythons breeding size by that time or you want to have a small group of snakes you breed? And what kind of budget are you looking at? That's a huge difference between suggesting pinstripes and clowns.

Personally I'd stick with 3-4 genes max in any given snake. I've seen people wind up with 5-6 genes in a snake and I always think they end up guessing at half of those genes just to bump up the price, and I don't trust the genetics of 5+ gene snakes unless it's really obvious.

One strategy that I've used is to buy a possible four banger gene, such as my pastel pinstripe possible yellow belly possible pied. I got her for less than $200. Now I can breed her to a pied male and see if she proves out. If she is really het pied and yellowbelly she will be worth a lot more. You'll spend less if you take a chance on the possible not proven genes and breed them to prove them out. Even if she doesn't prove out I still just love the pastel and spider genes and will get all het pieds, so she will end up adding some cool genes to my program anyway.
