ideas for switching him to rats
i have a large champagne i bought a few weeks back his owner was just feeding him mice and unfortunately he seems fixated as mice stink and are more expensive when it comes to getting him a full meal and are more nippy IME i would like to switch him, the rest of my snakes are happy rat eaters.
    ideas
    ?

Scent WEANED TO SMALL rats with mouse bedding. I got my female pied switched after a couple years. Only took her 4 scented meals. The only thing I find with mouse Feeders is even if they still switch they still seem to prefer a couple smaller meals. One of my last mouser is 1200 grams now and will only take rats in the 50 gram range. At least she takes rats so o don't mind giving her 2/or3 a week

I'll be watching this thread for ideas too. My tough love approach of waiting my girl out is not working.

scenting didn't work for me either.

Defrost and warm the mouse and the rat together. A little mouse blood on the rat seems to help. Try to use a rat the same size and color as the mouse. This has worked for me. I have converted about five animals. If the snake is loosing weight I will sometimes feed the mouse that was defrosted with the rat. Gets them used to the change of smell. Once the snake finally takes a rat I never allow them to eat, see or smell a mouse again.

Will a stubborn ball refuse long enough to stave to dealth? I couldn't imagine it would.

I have not heard of it, but it would be my bet that most keepers would give in when the animal starts loosing a lot of weight, so we may never know for sure.

I know I'm weighing her and if she drops too much I'll give up. However I go more so off looks, then weight itself.

hubby is more stubborn than I am. Pretty sure he would wait her out till the end of time lol

I heard that splitting the rat's head will give off a strong odor that the snakes love.

Some snakes. We have a BP and a spotted python that aren't impressed. My spotty girl wants/needs the smell of blood.

tried again failure with the split head and scented rat pup good news is the rescued spider ball went for it though and she came to me underfed and having been fed frozen (not thawed) pinkies so thats some good news.
