Motorcycles......Who got on!?!
We had an old thread about who rode but it died. As we have some new life here I thought it may be fun to see who is still riding, who is new that also rides, and if anybody has picked up riding. I know you northern folks are just getting to your riding season, whatever that is.
So who has a bike and what is it?
MarkS, you still riding?
Im still on my Victory Vision. Just got new Metzler 888 tires and Im LOVING them!!!

Yes, I'm still riding. I commute to work pretty much every day that I can on my little Ninja 250. It gets almost as good gas mileage as the Suzuki GS250 but it's a lot faster and quicker handling in traffic. And yes, I'm still saving up my pennies nickles and dimes for a big boy bike, though the ninja is as good of a commuter as I could want it's not so great for long trips.

Those little 250's are great for commuting around town. I ride almost every day but I have to do highway and people around here drive fast so a 250 is out for me.

That's great!!!
I commute on my bike as well. I bet you have a far easier time splitting lanes on that 250 that I do on my 1000lb warship, but I can get it done.

All,
Please be alert. Something can happen to anyone at any time no matter how good you think you are. When I was going home the other day a a ladder flew out of a truck on the highway. Cars scattered and I had nowhere to go but over the ladder. I ended up airborne at 80. If I had been on my crotch rocket instead of my "adventure bike" with long travel forks I would have been a red streak. I have a lot of time in the saddle. I stopped counting around 500,000 miles. None of my experience would have prevented what happened. Had to check the underwear when I got home.

I had a similar thing happen a few months back. I was just entering a freeway from a loop on ramp. As we got to the main lanes the no cars were moving to let me know there was a obstacle in the roadway. Suddenly from under the car in front of me was a landscape timer that was almost four feet long. It was laying in a way that allowed the cars to go right over it so I had no clue it was coming.
I did as I was taught in the police motor course and hit it straight on. I got a lil air but road out fine. Got to work and check the bike and all was well. For sure a pucker moment.
Im glad it worked out for you too. Ive always had cruisers and now have the Tour. A sport bike has never appealed to me but I think I could have a ton of fun on a adventure bike.

Re: Motorcycles......Who got on!?!
I'm 16 and am getting my Class M license this summer. Just started riding my KLX250SF supermoto. There is no better feeling then riding a motorcycle early in the morning, other than my bp finally eating after a couple months...

That's great!
No matter your background in bikes I would suggest taking a riding course. The open road is a dangerous place for a bike. If you grew up riding off road or even a bit on road a riding course will still help you and teach you things that will save your life. A lot of guys really like the classes these guys put on. They have different levels of classes as well. So as you get more saddle time and want harder challenges they will have it for you.

Yes I am aware of the MSF course. I can't take it at the moment due to school and the course being all day. So I have already signed up for Jun 7 to take it (the earliest I am able to). If I could I would of already taken the course. Though illegal, I do ride around the neighborhood a lot and sometimes the back roads a little. My dad used to ride motorcycles 20 years ago and I convinced him to get one for us. I recently was practicing my u-turns within 2 parking spaces when I dropped the bike on the curb and it cracked the clutch case :(. I'm getting the bike back from the shop today and it cost me 500$. Luckily I have a job and am able to pay for it.

Forget U Turns. Practice full tight circles. They are the first thing I learned in my police motor course. Everything you do on a motorcycle at slow speed is connected to being able to do so. If you can do a tight circle a U Turn is nothing. Cut you some tennis calls in half and use them as cones. If you hit them they wont make you fall and are easy to carry on a bike. Work the circles in both directions. You will find one way easier than the other. Work the most on the hard one. Don't do it too long as keeping your bike in the friction zone can glaze the brakes and clutch. Just take breaks after several minutes to let things cool down and then hit it again.
The trick to a tight circle or U Turn is to look where you want the bike to go. Sit up in the seat and close to the tank, turn your head and neck to look behind you. Lock on to a spot and the bike will go there.

Last word of advice for newbie rider.....
Do not ride in traffic if you still have to think about the bike. When you are ready the bike becomes an extension of you. You shouldo not have to think about shifting, turning or braking, they just "happen". All your attention needs to be focused on the road and what is going on around you. Bikes are awesome and they only rank behind sex and jumping out of airplanes for thrill factor but always remember you can go from zero to dead in less than a second. Mistakes are punished harshly.

Well I was right that many of our newer members ride. I should have done a poll to see the most common style of bike around here but it looks like the sport bikes would win.

Sounds about right. I like supermotos and Indian style bikes though. Not too much into Harley's. A lot of the younger generations into ducatis and super dukes.

Since Polaris bought Indian I have really liked what they have been putting out. The Springfield and the Darkhorse are my favorites. I would love to have one next to my Vision.

I know some people's riding season is coming to an end.....whatever that means. Living in Texas I don't have an understanding of season.
Anybody changed rides, added some mods, or got something to add to their stable?

Got tired of my dual sport and sold it. Was looking at a used Victory, but we couldn't get to the right price so I ended up with a 07 sportster...unfortunately I ended up spending what the Victory would have cost to get it running right. Now that its all fixed up it's really fun to ride. I don't have any pics of it on my work computer at the moment.

That's too bad. Victory makes a great bike.
I had a Sportster as my first bike. It was fun but I outgrew it so I went up to cruisers and then to the tour I have now.
-
To clarity I "outgrew" the sportster literally.
I was to heavy for the light suspension and it just became painful to ride after I hurt my back.

Ya, my dad use to have a victory and I loved that thing...this is my first "cruiser" style bike, I started with a RC51, and quickly got over the sport bike phase, I liked the dual sport, but they just don't have enough power to get out of the way of cars especially in California where everyone drives like an idiot.
-
I had a zx7, looking at getting something for commuting the newer ninjas look nice tho.
-
I commute on my battleship. I ride her everywhere I can.
-
Alright who is still riding, started riding, or got a new ride?
I added a steed to the stable. It started as a 08 Victory Vision Tour Premium but I removed the trunk since I already have a Tour and made it a Street Premium.

Still riding the XL1200C. Have been doing some work to it lately, blacking out a lot of the chrome, and saving up for a D&D Bobcat pipe plus some tuning.
