    NEED HELP- Feeding tipsIm
Hello Everyone, I am in need to some tips- here is the situation

My Ball python female seems uninterested in food, she is just over 700 grams and if i was told correctly hatched in 2014- i got her from a local exotic pet store in my area. the first 2 months i owned her she would not accept meals- Frozen thawed M rats- after the 2nd month i grew worried and eventually talked to the owner of the pet store and he said that if i left her in his care he would get her to eat. Apparently she had two M rats in the five days she was in his care. I have done my best to research tips and tricks along with eating habits and environmental (quirks?) basically what her environment has to be. She is housed in a 20g breeder tank with a wire top. I have had her back for 2 weeks now and she still wont accept a meal.

Pls describe habitat, temps, what you use to heat, what thermostats, temp gauges... Usually, non eating is related to habitat not being correct.

Are you sure she ate 2 medium rats in his care for a duration of 5 days? This actually sounds odd considering she wasnt eating for you for 2 months prior... So, either he is full of it, or your husbandry isnt correct.

1st..u shld have hides on both cool and hot end... All care sheets tell u this.

W your set up it sounds as if thr isnt a temp gradient possibly too... Cool side shld be cool..not hav a heat lamp over it.

I suggest highly you go read care sheet on this site and get your habitat in order.. That alone can cause eating issues..

Hey i just recently bought a pinstripe pastel from a pet store near by. I believe it is a female nd have had it for almost 2 weeks now. Ive feed it twice with two live male mice and she is now in the (blue) and today is feeding day. I dont have a scale to check its current weight but its about 1.5 feet long. After shed when its safe for her to eat should i give her a small rat or continue the 2 small mice in one feeding?

You should start your own thread. It will help get you better replys. You should be feeding prey as big a round as the largest part of your snake. A small rat may or may not be to big. You will have to compare to your snake. If a small rat is to big look at rat pups or large mice and see if there big enough. There's nothing wrong with feeding to mice in one feeding but it will be more convenient to feed 1. Switching to rats is a good idea bc you can get get bigger sizes then mice so when your snake grows you will be able to keep feeding only 1 prey per feeding. Switching to rats can take time so don't be shocked if your snake refuses. Just wait a week and try again.

To the OP of this thread are you using a digital thermometer with probe for temps? Are you using a thermostat? If your cool side gets lower than 80 using a heat bulb or ceramic heat emitter is fine as long as you use with a thermostat. Your heat pad must also have a thermostat. Also make sure you use 2 identical hides for each side. You want to use identical hides so your snake can't play favorites. Hides from reptile basics is a good choice bc there very dark and secure.

Also you said you feed in a seperate tub. Try feeding in the tank your bp lives in. It puts less stress on the snake and it avoids unnecessary movement.

Why is a 700 gram BP being offered a Med rat, much less two in five days? You need to find a better pet store, or a better definition of what a Med rat is. Smalks I can see, but not mediums.
