My pretty little mutt.
It was love at first sight with this jungle x jag cross. I most likely won't breed her but she'll look great next to my male jungle. She arrives next Tuesday. Mutts need love too right? :)

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Nice ziggy! How old and big is she? She looks really cool. On a side note I'm considering maybe getting another carpet or a bull snake. Which one should I go with?

That is one gorgeous mutt!

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Thanks fellas. I think she was posted for sale for like 12 minutes on FB before I contacted the seller.
@ Term- I'm not sure of her weight but the seller says she's 9 months old and about 3ft. She's eating rat pups so I figure she's probably a couple hundred grams.
You know I've been on a carpet kick lately and I'll most likely get a female diamond x jungle soon but I LOVE my bulls too. My female bull is a beast. She turns 3 in September and she's already close to 7ft and over 2500g. My male is about 5.5 ft and 1500g. He'll be 2 in July. They're not arboreal but they are pretty active in their enclosures and both of mine will regularly hang out in the open. They sometimes have a little attitude but mine grew out of it quickly. It's a pretty impressive /intimidating display. The husbandry is pretty much foolproof too. Since you have two carpets I'd probably go with the bull for diversity.

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Oh, I thought she was way bigger. Lol Oops! Beautiful girl, though. 😃

Oh, looked bigger than that to me. Nice find.

I like the diversity idea but the carpets are really cool and I don't know about the bulls because I've never had one. That being said I really like your bulls and your feelings about them will weigh in a lot on my decision. How are they to handle now that they are so large?
-
Re: My pretty little mutt.
T- Don't get me wrong, my carpets are the coolest snakes I keep. They just move so gracefully. I love watching them climb and balance themselves on branches. My bulls are just more "gruff". They move sh**. Finesse is not their forte. I love it when they thrash and trash their enclosures when they're hungry. And they just gulp down their food. They have a fierce and intense look and energy but both of mine are pretty sweet outside of feeding time and great to handle. Not nearly flighty as the carpets. You really can't go wrong with either critter.

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Beautiful animal Ziggy. Not to hijack your thread but I love jungles and have actually reached out to Nick Mutton about possibly acquiring a Zebra from him. My question is where would I be able to find a jungle x coastal? I want something with some size to it and if possible have that jungle look. Anyway, thanks to you, terminal and all the other carpet keepers who have pointed us to someone like Nick. He's got some beautiful animals. :)
-
Re: My pretty little mutt.
@ Cron- I wasn't really looking for another snake but kept looking at Nick's website, the Facebook Morelia groups and all the classifieds and eventually my addiction got the best of me AGAIN. I was going to buy a female jungle from Nick but the one I wanted sold before I could lock her down. It all worked out for the best though. If you're looking for a jungle x coastal I've seen a few on kingsnake.com and fauna.com . I found my girl on the Morelia Madness FB group page.

I've always like that snake.
I have a mutt as well. Coastal/something. She is still thin at a bit over 6 feet long. A terrible eater, but when she does eat she will take a 1 pound rabbit. She will be 3 years old the summer.
I'm not sure if she'll grow more or not based on eating habits, but the mother is 10 feet long and I believe the father is 7 or 8.
I like the pattern on you snake more than my girl.
Your mutt is very pretty!

I almost mentioned your Carpet in my previous post. I really like the looks your girl. I hope you plan on keeping her. I remember you had/have the itch to replace her with a Locality Carpet. afterthought - proper use of term, Locality Carpet vs Local Carpet? :confusd:

She is staying.
I mentioned the thought of placing her and my daughter started crying so that idea went away on the spot.

She is active and interesting, but a very sporadic eater. I'd like to see her grow more and I think she will when she decides to eat.
I like Zigg's snake.
Mutts are cool.

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Oh well, my girl may be a mutt but she's still from pretty good stock. I just spoke with the breeder, Bryan Hummel, who verified that he produced the animal last year from a Cover to Cover Jag x Highlighter Jungle pairing which is exactly what the seller told me. The pictures of the parent's gives me hope that my girl will turn out pretty nice :D. Now I just have to wait until Tuesday for her to get here. :snake:

My JCP is a jag sib from Bryan Hummel as well! You won't be sorry he has awesome aimals and all his jungles turn out fantastic. Do you know what percentage jungle it is? Mine is 87.5%

You are right, Bryan does have some amazing animals. Those C2C Jags and highlighter jungles he has are absolutely stellar. The seller didn't know the actual jungle percentages. I'm thinking it's gotta be 75% or 87.5% but I didn't confirm that with Bryan.

Way to go EL! That carpet is extra special. You should be just about ready for a breeding project? Lol. :gj:

Re: My pretty little mutt.
She ain't perfect but she sure is purdy :D. The new girl arrived safely today. She looks like she's gonna be shedding soon but she still has some nice colors. She's got a little pepper in her yellows but that's ok. I think she's going to be a great addition to my carpet clan.

Re: My pretty little mutt.
M girl weighed in at 195g before dropping a deuce today. I'll give her a few days to get settled and then I'll offer a meal. I love the diversity of Morelia. 4 down and 1 to go. Gotta get some Diamond in the mix. :)

I think she is outstanding, congrats Ziggy!! :)

That tipping is AMAZING El-Ziggy. Gorgeous.

Thanks Bright. That's actually what attracted me the most about her. At 9 months she's showing nice potential. Let's see how she looks when she turns 2 or 3. ;)

Looking good!
Don't be too worried about offering some decent sized prey. They seem to do a bit better on it in my experience and some of the well known breeders seem to advocate larger prey.
Obviously you are getting that beauty established first so its better to take it easy.
Outstanding mutt!

She looks stuffed alright! Time for her beauty sleep now.💤🌙

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Thanks guys. She's fitting in nicely.
@ T- I like to give the snakes a varied diet. I know they could eat rats exclusively but that's boring to me :). Why would any animal would want to eat the same thing ALL the time? So far my critters have only had mice, rats, chicks, and asf's but I want to try quail and eventually rabbits.

Nice plan.
They should eat all of that stuff.
I 100% agree the varied diet is healthy. Mix up the prey and sizes.
I need another carpet LOL!

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Feeding is a very important and enjoyable part of the hobby for me as well. I really enjoy it and since the prey is f/t the enjoyment and satisfaction is not derived from seeing the kill so I'm not sure what it is about feeding snakes that is so enjoyable to me. Maybe someone out there can explain it to me.
There is a place close to me where I think I can get quail so I will have see about getting some and have them on hand and ready for shags post shed celebration dinner. [emoji3]

I know what you mean terminal! Feeding is a lot of the fun of keeping snakes. I feed exclusively frozen/thawed as well and I think its just amazing how fast they can grab their food lol. Its a bit exhilarating especially with larger snakes. It's also just really cool how they can catch and eat prey with no arms or legs. :O
Awesome animal btw! Love those yellows they should really start popping soon!
-
My pretty little mutt.
Feeding is even more thrilling with the 7-8 footers.
I bet it's really exciting feeding a big Retic!
Punch, lives up to his name.

Re: My pretty little mutt.
Speaking of enjoying feeding time. I fed my Bredli a rat fuzzy last night. It was amazing to watch him eat from his perch, almost completely inverted, without him or the prey item ever touching the floor of the enclosure.

Its one of the few interactions we have with them outside of handling.
Its the big "Mystery" that is seldom seen in the wild. It is as cool as it gets for snake owner IMO.
http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/y...a/IMG_2499.jpg
I think everything depends on the individual snake as far as reaction. I've seen retics that wouldn't even strike or coil, but were probably overfed.
When I wait long enough with my boa, he is unstoppable and I have to take care when opening the door.
My carpet is a little silly. She prefers live and when she doesn't get it, which is not often unless the royal refuses, she will make me work.
Her last feed was coil and constrict with no strike after 2 months of not eating.
The above photo was when she was loving little F/T chicks.

I've experienced this with shag a few times because he is almost always perched when its feeding time after lights out.
And then there is almost the same experience just now with my arboreal corn snake.

I love perched feeding,
This bunny never touched the ground either.
I love semi arboreal snakes.
