My brand new blue eyed leucistic male with a condition so rare it is considerd a myth
Just picked up a little blue eyed leucistic at a pet store today. These snakes go for normally over $1000. However this one was kept in the back due to it being considered undesirable and after discussions with the staff they let me have him for just $200.
One of his eyes was injured by a mouse, but his other eye is what makes him special.
He actually has two irises and in one eye!
This condition is known as pulpua duplex and is considered a myth!
I now am the proud owner of living, breathing and rat squeezing proof of the condition.
I am over the moon. So excited I am sick.
I present you Mewtwo. My miracle snake.https://scontent-sjc2-1.xx.fbcdn.net...7d&oe=57BDB03D

[emoji15] wow! I haven't even heard of that, that's crazy! Have you noticed it affecting how he sees or anything?
And it goes to show you, what some think is undesirable, to others its way more! [emoji1303] congrats on the new guy!

Congrats on your new beauty!:)
Was the injured eye a duplex as well?
-
Wow!!
Awesome name choice btw. Seems oddly fitting

Here is his injured eye. I have high hopes that, even if he never regains true sight, the eye will heal to the point that it looks almost normal.

No need to make duplicate posts, they have now been merged into one. Please remember this for future use.
BELs have also come way down in price, haven't seen a 2 gene close to $1k in a while (hatchling that is)
The eye does make it interesting though. :gj:
The duplex does look bug eyed in the photo.
Also I find it interesting that they said the right eye was mouse damage but I don't see any damage around where the eye should be.
What morph combination is this BEL?

I can only guess at the pedigree of the snake, the store I bought him at no longer deals with that particular breeder as they were receiving sick snakes, such as this one was. They were legally obligated to not slander the name of the breeder. I know it had a dude's name in the name of the breeder and I believe he was here in CA, but that is all I know.
Also, sorry about the duplicate post, I had no idea which thread would be the best one to post about him in.
As far as the price, I have been thoroughly informed of the error lol, however I seem to be locked out of editing the thread.

yes, he does seem to be almost completely blind.

This happens as soon as someone responds to a post.
Responsibility for what one posts. LoL
-
That's weird/cool. It looks like its missing the one eye, and has 2 on the other side.
-
Someone put an eye in the wrong spot! In all seriousness, I do not see any indication that the missing eye was damaged or injured, it looks all together gone. I would guess hatch defect of some sorts. BEL's especially super lessers are prone to eye issues.
-
beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
congrats and i'm glad to hear that u are giving this BP a good home.
-
Wow, that is really neat. Also, perfect name!
I also think it doesn't look like an injury after birth. I'd guess that it's a birth defect that had both eyes grow/combine in one eye socket. :O Very interesting.

Id actually chose that guy over a normal looking snake....i love anomalies like that! Saw a photo of a human with both eyes like that in the Ripleys Believe it or Not museum. Very unique animal!

I am glad the animal found a home. This pretty much helped me make up my mind. I will not be trying to produce super lessers next season. I would bet good money that this is exactly what this animal is.

yeah, most def. a Super Lesser/Butter. i think most breeders woulda culled this BP right after birth rather than trying to sell it. still glad this one made it to a forever home tho.

slander: a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/slander?s=t
it's not slander if the breeder was indeed selling sick animals. it would be stating a fact.

I wish I had a better way to tell.
-
Re: My brand new blue eyed leucistic male with a condition so rare it is considerd a
That is the word they used. However, there is no proff the animal was sick when he was sold to the store, only mutated. If word got out that the store was accused of saying the breeder sold sick animals, then they could be in trouble, especially as they signed a contract with the breeder saying they would not do so.
-
sounds like a contract that should have never been signed.

Damn. As someone who lives in Cali - and buys the majority of my snakes here in Cali - I would be greatly interested to know the breeder. I may have missed it, but can you tell what store you got it from?

Re: My brand new blue eyed leucistic male with a condition so rare it is considerd a
I found out the place is called Reptiles by Mack. The same on that has PETA all over it.
The store was Carter's Pets, in Stockton. They don't carry animals like this snake. It was in the back and I lucked out through a conversation with an employee there. =)
-
Everyone has a right to live. Enjoy the snake. Stay away from reptiles by mack though.
