Gorilla glue question

Will Gorilla glue stick to metal? I was wondering how to make a permanent solid top on Dori's Zilla tank. It has the sliding screen top. Will Gorilla glue hold plexiglass to the metal top? I just have it (plexiglass) setting on it now with a home made ugly wooden top on it lol. I have the plexiglass taped around the edges to hold it in place for now. She can't get to the tape by the way, it's just to secure the glass to the outside top of the lid.

The wooden top is to keep the cat off the flimsy screen. He enjoys getting his claws and ripping the screen out, bad kitty that he is.
I figure the plexiglass would hold the cat and I can get rid of the ugly top, providing the glue works. Or should I use screws to attach it?
I'm trying to use the actual sliding top, just adding the glass to it. The more I reread this post the sillier it sounds lol. Anyway I hope you get what I'm asking :)

Hey A, I don't think you need to secure the plexiglass with glue or screws. That might hamper your access and ability to enter and complete daily activities inside the enclosure. Your plexiglass sheeting should be cut to a proportion that is able to slide into the frame of the enclosure top.

I agree you should cut it to fit in the track that sliding screen was in. If the plexiglass is to thick to fit the track I would add hinges and a locking mechanism.

Black gorilla glue is an expanding glue ..don't use on it.. others have said just make tight to the top or tape it over..

Gorilla glue is the came from the devil. Imagine getting the super glue one on your palm and fingers.... And you lean over across the table to get something damp to wipe it off.... and your entire hand is flat to the table. And stuck.

Anyways.....

Just slide the plexi into the grove the lid sits in. Much better.

I actually thought about just sliding the glass in the groove already there, but I'm thinking that will be to flimsy and would bow in if the cat gets on it.
Also how would I secure it?
Guess I could use some of that strong velcro stuff I already have on hand. Ok so I have that figured out, thanks!
Now about it being strong enough to hold a fat cat lol. I'm stuck there...
The tank is like a 40 gal breeder tank. So it's 18" by 36".

Only one way to find out. Put it between two dining room chairs and plop the cat down on it from juuust high enough it has to "land" (like four or five inches).

Gorilla glue is awful. It foams up and turns into a hideous, awkward mass. If one layer of plexiglass isn't strong enough, I would suggest either getting thicker plexiglass, or using a double layer.

For your cat problem, add a little double-stick tape to the lid. Cats hate the sensation on their paws. That should keep kitty away. Alternatively, you can use aerosol spray cans. They shoot a burst of air when something crosses their path--cats of course also hate this :P Here are some options for ya:

Thanks for the suggestions but my cat don't mind either. I tried. I had one tank with just plants in it, tried the tape on the edges, he just jumped over it...So I put it around the edges and across the middle of the top. He still just jumped over it. So I tried covering the whole top, to no avail rotfl. I found him curled up on the tape taking a "cat" nap :please:

Same with tin foil. Nope he don't care what he walks on or sleeps on.

I'll just try the plexi glass and see what happens, on a trial tank I have setting here not the one with Dori in it!

Well....this next solution is not the nicest solution... But if the plexi bends, I've used a boat horn to train the dogs. I only use it for issues that can cause harm to a pet or person. But if you happened to blow the horn every time they do the thing.... Pretty soon the thing never happens again.

That in mind.... I hope the plexi works!!
