spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
Please help me. What should I do with these water spots? I did put some liquid band aid to them last evening, but they are still spreading. Incubation temps. are 32 celcius, humidity 99%. There are good veins in all the eggs. I wonder is this my doing, I have opened the lid now about 5 times in 5days. My female laid her eggs 5days ago. This is my first ball python clutch, donīt wanna lose them... sorry the bad guality of pics, donīt really wanna open the incubator anymore :tears:

Did you mix the vermiculite correctly with 1:1 ratio of water by weight? I think you put way too much water in your mixture. You might want to take them out and put them into a new. Be very careful

Re: spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
I fixed my dripping issue by putting more open tubs full of water in the incubator. You can also put something under one side of the box so the water rolls to the end that the eggs aren't on. The condensation forms because the incubator may not be very well insulated - so the incubator is colder than the inside of the egg box. This can be resolved in the future by calibrating temps with the temperatue probe on the outside of the egg box, so the incubator is never hotter than what's in the egg box - I've never done this though as there's more room for error with this method.

Vermiculate is 1 to 1, damp not wet. Water doesnīt come out when squeezed. The two of eggs what are direct contact with substrate are looking perfect. I donīt see much condensation water on the tubs lid, there is bearly nothing. I was also suspecting temperature changes has coused the eggs sweating. Is this possible? Thank you for replies :)
-
I changed the substare as suggested, also put a plastic mesh thing under the eggs so they are no longer direct contact wit the substrate. Also tilted tubs one side little. I hope this helps. Iīm so stressed :rainon:
Also take a better picture while at it. That green colour wasnīt there yesterday...

I did sprinkle some anti-fungus foot powder to bad looking spots. I`ll keep this post updated whatever happens. I hope it will help someone someday :)

No other suggestions here, but fingers are crossed for you! I had issues early on with my first clutch, though it's seemed to stabilize now, I understand your stress. Good luck!

Thank you, thumbs up for both of us :)

I think the bad looking eggs are dying. One on the top is starting to collapse. Two eggs bottom of the pile are still looking good. Should I try to separate the bad ones or just leave them be?

No, leave them for now. Much to risky to try and separate eggs at this stage without ripping the integrity of the eggs. Idk if tilting the tubs was the best action but certainly moving them again and again should be avoided. Stay on top of your humidity percentage and temperatures and minimize opening the incubator.
-
I've heard many people leave the bad ones in unless they start to smell and the good ones stay unaffected, but I'll leave this one to the experts. Definitely leave them alone as much as possible. That was my problem early on. Did you candle them when you set them up?

Why have you opened up the lid 5 times?
Did you drill an 1/8 diameter hole at each end of the nest box?
Why are you using open tubs of water in your incubator?

Watch this video I've used this method for over 20 years, It works every time. If those were my eggs I'd take them out and set them up in a new box using the method I describe in this video.

I actually did separete the eggs yesterday. Tossed two of them what were going to rot and have no veins. They are now nested the way you suscribed in the video, though there are no air holes in the tub... Two of the eggs are still looking perfect. One with the wet spot is not going worse or so it seems to me, it still have strong veins.
I opened the lid becouse I panicked when I saw those wet spots on the eggs, figuring to let most moist go of the box :O Maybe I should add the holes in the tub, very very carefully? I donīt have any open water containers in the incubator :) Appreciate your help :)

Re: spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
I'm not sure if those are water spots, did you actually see water droplets forming on the lid?

I didn't see any water drops on the lid, but eggs looked like they were sweating. What could be cousing that?

I just assumed you were getting droplets of water falling off the lid due to condensation.
Please call me at 408-981-6694 so we can discuss your incubation issues more effectively.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I just wondered that I call you, but I checked the time in California and it was midnight (I just woke up). This is how my eggs look like right now. One in the left still shows veins, but I think itīs done for... Iīm going to incubate it anyhow, until it starts to stink...

Can you be more specific what is peat?

spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
Peat meaning bog soil. A very rich and loamy dirt. Being used as substrate for the female, correct?

Re: spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
So this is my situation right now: 4 of 5 eggs are dead. The last egg started to sweat around day 30-32. The liquid band aid did not work at all the other four, so I tried some elmers glue four days ago to the last one. Baby inside the egg is wiggling. I read some other thread that glue just might do the trick and stop the egg sweating, so far it seems it really helps, but who knows. I hope this last one will make it.
-
Yeah those "water spots" are eggs going bad.
4 of 5 is really high loss.
I noticed you have evidently been messing with the eggs a lot and moving them, Did you rotate them at all??
Did you make sure the same side stayed up?
I really wish people would stop telling others to keep the eggs out of the medium, if it is mixed remotely close to not muddy they will be fine.......

No, I didn't rotate the eggs. I was really extra careful with them.

Re: spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
The glue really did stop the sweating, but I noticed that today the egg had started to sweat from another spot. It still shows some good veining though...

Re: spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
So, the last egg is now on day 49. It looks nasty but still have veins. It started to collapse about a week ago... Argh... Wondering what is going to happen to it :confusd:
-
Do you have a picture of the egg? A certain amount of collapse is normal. Mine looked sad towards the end and I had healthy babies crawl out. Good luck!
-
Re: spreading water spots on eggs, what to do?
Hoping for a great outcome! This one will be the gem. :gj:

I remeber you strugling with your eggs, so happy that 5 hatched:) I don't have a pic, and I think nothing I do at this point would help, it's only waiting. I think other half of the egg looks kind of normal and other half is nasty...
