    Our new carpet, Isabel.
We went to a local shop for some live feeders for our snakes that refuse f/t, and left with this snippy princess! We've been keeping an eye on her since she first showed up and haven't stopped thinking about her since. She's just a tiny noodle, but has it in her head that she is a pit viper. She was never handled and the personnel were terrified of her. After my boyfriend got bit 20+ times and she flung pee everywhere, we knew we were taking her home haha. I'm sure she'll calm down before long. She's wonderful, she even ate the night we brought her home. Unfortunately we weren't able to weigh her due to her squirming, but we hope to soon!

She absolutely loves her new bamboo climbing bars! She didn't leave them for the first 48 hours after she arrived!

She looks great. I'm Sure she will out grow that biting stage as she grows. I have two carpets. They are clutch mates. One is a terror the other one is about as calm as my boa's. I guess the calm one didn't get the memo on how to act.:)

Thank you! I think she's going to be a wonderful snake when she realizes we aren't trying to harm her. Hopefully she gets the biting out of her system while she's still little. It might actually hurt when she gets larger! She's slowly calming down. Your nippy baby probably will too :)

    Isabel is beautiful, congrats! :)

I have a real fondness for Coastal's, I have three Adults. And they are all tame as a newborn bunny.

You have a great attitude with Isabel and I'm confident that she will be a joy for you.

    Enjoy

Aww, they're beautiful Reinz! It's crazy how adept they are at climbing, especially Etta. I can't wait to watch our little Isabel grow up! It will be nice to handle her and not feel like a chew toy!

Just a few update pics. She is coming along awesome. She was 81 grams when he got her and is now up to 91 with a few meals in her. We have had her for 3 weeks now and she has now gotten to the point where I can handle her and she will not bite me anymore. Sometimes if she is touched when handling and caught off guard she will do a flying head butt type thing lol however she is a joy to have and very entertaining.

Isabel is looking fantastic. When I got Shag @ 94g he was a little nippy as well but that went away in couple of weeks. Carpets are amazing and fun animals.

She is absolutely adorable. I wouldn't mind a few baby bites from her ;) Her little head is so cute.

I don't know how I missed this thread. That's a gorgeous coastal y'all have. She's gonna grow quickly too. Carpets are awesome snakes to keep.

Thank you everyone. She is definetly coming along nicely. Still has her moods where she gets snappy and she isn't completely a fan of being touched. Sometimes I can handle her without a bite and sometimes I get a few. However they really are not that painful. All in all I still think she is perfect.

A thing I try to do when picking up or changing position when holding my Bredli is to bring my hand into contact with her where she's already in contact with something, then slide my hand along her body to where I want it. I think she takes it as a shift in position on her part, and she's more comfortable with it. She's grown out of her nippy phase, but she's still more particular about her handling than some of our snakes.

The KampKenan guy recently posted a video on his carpet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKcmj1YQ1mQ

Worth a look; I always like his videos.

Well we have had Isabel for 1 month now and she is becoming quite tame in her short time. I can handle her and not even have to worry about being bit any more. She has gained 20 grams and is up to 101g. She literally takes the hoppers right off the tongs and starts chomping away barely even wraps except for support. She got an 8 and 9 gram hopper tonight. Here she is eating one of her two hoppers. Sorry for the IPhone pics but it is all I have.

Thank you everyone. Overall she settled in quicker than I expected but I did the best I could and it worked out. Now we have two more carpets and the boa to get settled in as well.

    Re: Our new carpet, Isabel.
Thank you Ziggy and redshepherd! I can't believe how quick she is growing. I gave her her first chick today and she took it right down once she figured out where the head was and stopped trying to start at the wing lol. She definitely seems healthy and happy. You should absolutely get a female coastal Ziggy. Then again I'm not a good voice of reason :) She is ALOT calmer than she used to be for sure. 99% of the time I can handle her without any issues and she is very inquisitive and tame. However she does still have some attitude. The first day she sheds she does not like to be touched or she will nip. Also if she is happy on her jungle gym she will nip to let you know she does not want to leave her home. I say nip because the first bite seems to be a warning bite, she does not clamp down and it won't draw blood. However as I have learned if you continue to push the issue the next one will be much more serious lol. As with any snake they all have their own personality and once you learn to respect that they are absolute wonderful. The other two coastals have not even tried to bite me for any reason.

    She looks fantastic.

I've been looking and looking for possible additions here and carpets keep topping the list. I'm a die hard boa constrictor fan and also have a deep interest in dwarf/SD retics however carpets keep coming to the top.

You have winner there and I see more in the future for you.

    Thanks for the update.

FYI the grow long first so don't get too hung up on weight. They also can take huge meals without worry.

    Keep up the good work.

    Re: Our new carpet, Isabel.
Gio - Thank you for the compliments. I can understand carpets staying at the top of the list. We have a fairly diverse collection and I know it's not nice but the carpets are my favorite. I already plan on picking up a few more in the future but I'm done for now. I'm not too worried about weight as long as her body shape is good but it's just crazy how quickly she grows.

Prognathodon - Agreed, that picture was too awesome to pass up. I was standing next to the door holding her not thinking anything about it and the next thing I know she's climbing it lol.

Tigerhawk - Thank you, she is definitely beautiful and growing like a weed. I am too, I figured she would I just didn't know how long it would take. She was a real spitfire originally. Her feeding schedule varies. She will get 10-15% of her body weight every 7-10 days depending on when she goes to the bathroom. It's not an exact schedule but it definitely works and the randomness drives my girlfriend up a wall :)

It's been a while since I updated Isabel. She is around 650 grams now and close to 5 feet. She just shed yesterday and it was in the high 70's so I took her out for a couple quick update pics.
