Finally ended the fast!!
Dottie has finally decided food is good again and ate a small F/T rat last night. She is pretty lazy though now. As a baby, she would stand up like a cobra ready to strike at anything that even resembled food. Now last night, she was out and about so I did the rat dance in front of her and she just looked at it. Then I hopped it around just out of reach of her and she again just looked at it. So I finally gave up and put it on top of 1 of her hides. Then I sat down to watch tv and I look over to see her sitting next to it checking it out. Than after about 5 mins of checking it out, she grabbed it by the head and swallowed it. She didn't even coil it or anything, just picked it up by the head and swallowed it. Talk about a lazy snake lol. So the fast is finally over after about 5 months. Well at least I hope *knock on wood*

Good to hear, congrats! :)
Elvira should be ending her fast soon. I don't usually offer till April. If she refuses, I wait till May until I offer again.

:hijackd: Reinz, how old is Elvira? I still have two that are on fast. One of my breeder males and a female both of which have not eaten since late December, and not lost that much weight. The male only 10g. I imagined he will eat again in a month or so. Big girl is recovering from RI, so not surprised there either. I know BP's are prone to fast over Winter, but I'm just trying to gage it. I'm expecting my gravid girls to eat again after they lay.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Re: Finally ended the fast!!
Hopefully mine eats soon. Thank heavens I have a piggy in the form of a boa that eats leftovers! The ball hasn't eaten since December 26th but still acts normal, etc and even seems interested in prowling, etc so I suspect one of these times, BAM, back to normal.

Yeah see my girl was out and cruising nightly for the past month or so so I thought she was hungry but when I did the rat dances and stuff, she wanted nothing to do it with them. She would look at them and turn around. She did the same this time too but when I just laid it on top of one of her hides at night, she cruised over and in 5 mins picked it up and ate it. She doesn't seem to be in the slamming mood for rats now. Its more like she has been reading lady etiquette books on eating lol.

Dave, Elvira is 14, never been bred, and has been like clockwork for several years now. She starts her fast in September/October and finishes in April/May. No noticeable weight loss seen.
She did something a little different this fast though. In July and August she loaded up on food getting ready for the fast. She had an insatiable appetite that just would not go away, and was very food/cage aggressive
for this normally mild mannered Sweetheart. So I fed her extra since she was going preemptive on me. :)
She has not shed in over 6 months but has been in deep blue for about 5 days now. I expect after she sheds she may be ready to eat within a week or two.
One other thing, back in January she went into a hardcore blue but never shed. She has done this a few time before though.
Now that I expect this every year I'm laid back about it and don't worry, especially since she loaded up on extra rats this time.

Ugh congrats. I'm considering renaming Nagini to Ghandi. He hasn't eaten properly since November. He's active and he's still healthy and he hasn't dropped weight so I'm not worried. But congrats.

Awwwww Reinz, why don't you breed her? That would be so nice. Lol. :)
-
Well that is good news! Ours has not eaten more than three times in the last year. She has gone into shed twice during her latest fast. When she comes out of it I am hoping she is ready to go in the next day or two but I don't get real worried as this is what they do.
Anybody who keeps a royal should have a boa constrictor on standby. That way you're not throwing food away constantly LOL!!

Congratulations!! Feels so good, when you get a striker to put down the sign... we have a Fire Spider girl who hit her 1000g wall and wouldn't take a darn thing since October last year - she finally broke her fast 2 weeks ago and has taken 2 meals, so we're crossing our fingers that she's decided to jump the wall and keep eating for us!

Maybe after I get everyone in their new permanent homes and the snake room finished. I am guilty of buying snakes that I liked without having the best enclosure for them first. :( But things are slowly progressing.

Lol exactly. My boas are gonna be disappointed now as they no longer will be getting an extra rat in the case of Vicky. Rosey I doubt will even care as a small rat to her is pretty much like a Jolly Rancher to us lol. I pretty much switched everyone over to F/T also since Rosey eats rabbits now and i'm not going to try and kill little rabbits. Was actually surprised with Dottie though as she took the F/T no problem and that was the first she ever had. I fed her fresh pre killed as a baby but never a F/T.

Lol guilty here too of that haha. I want a GTP and a Jungle Carpet from Nick Mutton so bad but I need to get Dottie and Vicky their PVC cages first. Then I can use my 40g which is already set up for a baby carpet and then set up an Exo Terra 18x18x24 for a GTP :D Of course ill need another Herpstat 2 for the carpet and GTP lol.
-
Yes, of course ANOTHER Herstat! I know that feeling.

Lol well I went to go offer Dottie a rat today and she was relaxing in her warm hide so I decided to give her a peekaboo session. To my surprise, she looked up at me like "why are you bothering me!?" and I noticed her body is all pink getting rdy to go into shed. I offered her a peace offering of a dead rat but she just looked at it and then laid her head back down in the center of her coiled body lol. So Vicky was extra happy as she got an extra rat this feeding. So I guess one rat has triggered Dottie to shed, weird BP.
