    Incubator question
We are expecting eggs in the next few months and I want to make sure I have everything in order before they come. Right now we have a zoomed incubator, that came with two shelves and two little tubs for eggs. Since we have three girls that we think are all gravid, I am thinking we need more room for eggs. We have two more containers that fit in the incubator, but only if they are stacked one on the other, is this ok? I don't want to cause issues by stacking, and also how close can we put the eggs in each container?

    Thanks in advance

Also as a side note one of the females we think is gravid has been urinating everyday for the past few days. Is that normal?

I find that the zoomed are a little too small for my comfort when it comes to ball python clutches. those tiny bins that came with it are for gecko eggs. I do know people stack their containers, but you need there to be at least some air flow around them to allow for even heating. You can always set up the containers, shove them in there, run the incubator for a few days and then check the temps in both containers and see if they are good temps.

As for urinating, do you mean leaving white urate in the cage or releasing a liquid of some sort?

Also as for how close the eggs can be, most of the time the eggs stick to one another anyway (another reason that incubator can be too small if the pile of eggs is an awkward shape). So the eggs can touch one another, although if they are not stuck together people tend to give each egg a little space so it can be removed if it rots.

    It is liquid

Also can I put a few holes in the containers, or does that release too much heat and humidity?

Do not put holes in the containers, it ruins the humidity. The air needs to flow around the containers not through them.

Snakes do not urinate a liquid, they produces a solid white urate substance. I'm not sure what your snake is passing, but it is not normal for a snake to pass any kind of liquid on a daily basis. Are you sure it is coming from the snake and not just tipping the water dish? Does it smell? Is it thick?

It's yellow and smells like urine.

That is strange. It's not urine, that much I can tell you.

Just to clarify along with the "urine" there are white irate pellets.

Okay, so perhaps some extra water washing it out. Still odd to have that happening every day. She's eating or is she fasting?

    Aggressively eating.

Eatting is always a good sign. I guess if she's getting lots of protein she'll be making lots of urate, but it still seems excessive that it be every day.

I don't know where you heard that they don't pee... they definitely DO pee - they have solid urates IN ADDITION to pee, there is very often liquid urine involved in their excrement passage!

    Exactly!

There may be liquid passed in small amounts but it's not urine in the mammalian sense. Large amounts of liquid waste from a snake particularly on a daily basis is abnormal.

Well, they're not mammals, they don't do anything on a mammalian basis. :) But it's perfectly normal for them to pee when they DO pass excrement... on their own timeframe.
