Who would be interested in Beta testing an Access database for Husbndry
First off I would like to say I am not selling anything. That being said, I am looking for a few people to help me test a beta database for the husbandry of ball pythons. You must have at least 10 BP's and be experienced. Once I get closer to finishing I will sent the beta copy out to you in exchange for your feedback both negative and positive. I have tried degei and just found it confusing. Inbox me for information and or suggestions of what should be included. To the moderators if I put this in the wrong section please let me know. If I broke any rules let me know please.

I'm down to try it out. I have 15 right now, and am currently just using a journal to document each snakes feeding/cleaning/shedding/weight, etc.... Just let me know if you want some help testing it.

I was 3x5s for a long time.
Made the switch to Reptile Scan, it offers more than most will need.

Thanks Pit I will have to check that out.

Ah Is that a monthly service type thing?
-
Nope, one time fee unless you want the pro which does even more.

It's a cell phone app that costs 25 dollars one time. You can upgrade the service to get more features but it's not necessary. The upgrade costs 4 bucks a month and has better prices for longer periods of time (250 for lifetime pro).
I haven't used it yet (I've been using Snake Keeper, which was something like 5 bucks to have unlimited snakes I think), but the main draw to it and the one I use is that it's on my phone. My computer is less than 10 feet from my snake rack but I'm not going to go back and forth between the two to record weights, poops, feeding, etc. Sometimes I weigh rats before hand, sometimes I feed and then leave the room nice and dark for them to swallow, or sometimes I forget to put something in and since my phone is in my pocket I do it right then, where I'm less likely to go across the house just to enter in a feed/shed/poop. The other thing reptile scan does is use barcodes, so instead of scrolling through a list of snakes to find the one that you fed or something you just scan the snake's id card and you don't have to worry about errors.

Yeah I hate going back and forth as well. Thanks again for the info.

Can you use your program on a phone but more importantly does it have a QR feature?

Re: Who would be interested in Beta testing an Access database for Husbndry
I'm not sure my data base would need a QR feature. It is geared toward smaller scale breeders.

I guess it depends what you call small scale breeder, my collection usually fluctuates between 55 and 75 breeders, that is very small scale.
If it is geared for people with 10 animals or so there might not be a market for you as people can as easily use a speadsheet.

Re: Who would be interested in Beta testing an Access database for Husbndry
I'm designing it to work for the hobbiest to the small scale breeder such as yourself. I only asked for beta testers to have at least 10 reptiles so they could use it to its fullest to help me figure out any bugs and make it more user friendly. I began this whole thing because I don't want to pay some company online for software that I don't like. Basically just wanted to make it for my use and anyone else who was interested and to get better with access lol

Re: Who would be interested in Beta testing an Access database for Husbndry
I'd be very interested and would love to try it. I've been looking for something that would fit me better than what I've tried so far.
If it had a QR reader that was simple, it would be a bonus for anyone with 10 plus reptiles (as long as you didn't have to read the code before every input)... just scan, enter everything about that one animal, then on to the next.
I would definitely be willing to give as much feedback as you'd like if you want me in your Beta :-) . I have Android btw. If you have any initial questions for me, send me a PM.

Only reason I ask is based on your answer about QR function and phone app even as a small scale breeder this is something that is a HUGE help to be able to quickly scan a QR codes and upgrade data.
I can understand not wanting to do that and my question were only to see if I would be interested in testing your software or not.

It isn't a deal breaker for me, but for many it is. Once you have many animals it can get frustrating.
I have long days and bad sleep so I've occasionally completely messed up entering numbers or hit the wrong animal. The QR would help with those times. God I don't even want to admit how badly I recorded things the night I tried to feed while I had a concussion lol.
I wouldd suggest to reconsider the QR. Many people would rather use that system.

I'm not even sure a QR code work with MS Access but I will ask much smarter guys than me. Thanks.

I'm currently using MS Excel for my tracking needs. Did the trial for HerperPro, but it's development/support is pretty much defunct. It did have some areas I liked, such as the genetics tracking/lineage for breeding. Haven't tried ReptileScan yet...not sure I've got enough yet to make that worth it. I've probably asked this before, but does ReptileScan have a lineage tracking option?
Regardless, I would be willing to beta test if you'd like.

I dont have 10, but 8 is close? While I understand wanting to try a smaller scale for your beta, getting people with smaller collections can get as many bufs/suggestions as thise with more. The big difference is the quantity of information;)
