Lost IJCP
I hate to report this, but either the rubbermaid wasn't snapped on all the way yesterday or since the lid is partially cracked, Ko Kame snuck out of her cage.
This totally bites. She could hide in a paper towel roll. We've already dug all over the apartment looking for her.

That bites, I know what you are going thru my grey banded king is on day 3 of her great adventure.

Re: Lost IJCP
good luck in the search. I have had 2 escapes but Thor has never strayed far from home so there was never any worry. Check where it is warm, watch where you sit, check the vcr, and hope she pops up(i am sure she will):)

Oh no! ~~~~ Sending good snakey-finding vibes your way!

Re: Lost IJCP
We moved all of the animals other than the cat into my bedroom, and turned on the AC. Trying to bait her to at least go into the bedroom (if she isn't there already). It's warm in there and it'll be quite cool everywhere else.
The cat is locked into the bathroom.

Re: Lost IJCP
Ouch best of luck!
As someone likely to be equipped with critter keepers . . . do you have any spares and some rodentish bait you could pop inside? Maybe sit a hide on the floor nearby and light it all up with a red heatlamp? Might be worth a shot. We've had a few escapes and lured a couple back like that.

Re: Lost IJCP
She has been found!
We stuffed all of the animals in the bedroom (aka herp room). Locked the cat up in the batheroom, blocked all of the vents in the bedroom and turned the AC on so it'd be like 65.
I had planned on buying a live rodent tomorrow and using it for bait if she was still MIA.
I figured out how she might have gotten out, other than me leaving the lid not completely snapped on that side. Stupidly on my part as well, she was the only snake that wasn't equiped with a bungie cord. The cords of the thermostat and the thermometer make it easier to pop that side of the container off. The problem has been solved (I hope).

Re: Lost IJCP
That's great! So where did you find her?

Re: Lost IJCP
She was slithering across the top of the toychest/bench I've had for ages that half of the tarantula's usually sit on.
The T room was storage for a long time, and it's also the room with all of the cinderblock bookshelves. The T room still has a ton of stuff in it, just piled in places. I suspected she was hidding in there, but with Butter's moving around making noise in her cage, it was impossible to tell if Butter's was the only one making noise. Once I got butter's out and it was dark in the majority of the apartment and quiet, she came out. It also helped that I locked up the cat.

Re: Lost IJCP
Yeah, the cats and other intentionally free-roaming critters do tend to discourage them from showing themselves. I'm glad she showed up pretty quickly for you.

Re: Lost IJCP
Wow I am glad u found him.. Not a cheap snake to lose..lol.. Congrats

Re: Lost IJCP
Her acutally :P Neither one of the IJCP's is a cheap snake to lose. Issa would have been easier to find, he's bigger :)

Re: Lost IJCP
Man, about 2 weeks ago she got out again. I typically feed her first out of the snakes and I was starting to freak after I realized she wasn't in her rubbermaid and that I hadn't seen her in there in a couple days.
I ran around and finished feeding everybody else. I had just fed butters, who lives in the invertebrate room, when I turned around and she was right behind me! There must be something about the invert room that she likes. She was climbing all over the wire shelves, and it took me a few minute to get her untangled and properly fed.
She's living in a new rubbermaid enclosure now. She needed a bigger one, and it was way to easy to pop lid slightly with the thickness of the thermostat cords.

Glad she's back safe and sound.

Re: Lost IJCP
Congrats on finding her! It's such a relief when you find them unharmed. My hamster got out sometime yesterday (I believe with help from my 3 yr old) and I noticed it last night. Total freak out! I have two dogs and my cat were all inside for the majority of yesterday. I figured I was looking for a little dead body. I kept calling her and when I checked my son's closet she came right to me!! Amazing, awesome and total RELIEF!

Re: Lost IJCP
so were you walking around your house yelling "pooh pooh"?
hamsters come when you call them?
-
Re: Lost IJCP
No I wasn't calling her name ... whenever I want her to come out of her hide I always clicked my tongue and she came out. Which was usually followed by hand feeding. (kinda the sound you would make to a squirrel or horse) She's conditioned to come to me to get food, so after her adventure I guess she was REALLY hungry! So she came right to me! It was great!
