RHP question
So I'm looking at getting a RHP to heat my enclosure. From what I can see, my house in summer being in 68 as the lowest but range of 68-73 degrees F, and the higher 70s during winter, that a RHP would be best. i was wondering will the RHP get the inside of there hides that nice warmth like a under tank would?

Re: RHP question
Yes it would. Just make sure you get the right sized panel based on your enclosure and ambient room temps. Myself and many others use heat panels only.
-
Ok cool, and yes I will. I contacted pro-products and gave them that info and they told me what size to go with then.

Re: RHP question
You can also go with Reptile Basics RHPs. They're a bit cheaper in price but are great in quality.

The guy there is very helpful and knows his stuff. I had to play around a bit with my probe placement for my herpstat to get everything dialed in but after that I've been super happy with mine.

You have to get the proper size cage and proper wattage on the RHP. Lower cages seem to work well for BP's. Don't worry about belly heat coming from the bottom. The RHP heats up enough of the cage for a BP to get a hot spot. The warm hide will be in the upper 80's. I myself use a tile under the hide that's larger than the hide. I put it on the arm side under the RHP. The tile collects heat and brings it under the hide. The hide will act like shade to the BP but the ambient temps inside will be upper 80's. The tile warms up nice also. Far end ambient temps will be 78, middle cage around 80, warm side will be 90. Inside the hide will be about 88. I prefer the RHP's to UTH's. You have to let a cage run for a while before you know the true temps... if you get something with a RHP.

Enclosure it is going to go in is a AP T8, its popular I see so figured I'd get that one.
That's a good idea about the tile, I might have to steal that from you. I'm preparing for everything and will be putting my order in no later then next week. Going have the RHP shipped to AP to install it and then the fun will begin!

Re: RHP question
You won't be sorry. LOVE the two I have and this fall when my daughters and I's girls get big enough I'll get two more on the way.

Sounds good....keep us posted on the progress.

I'm in the same boat as you EWC88. My T8 got here yesterday (minus the doors, lock and divider). I have decided to go with two 40w RHP's for my T8 since I'll be using it with a divider, and may have a snake on each side of it. If i end up using it for only one snake down the road, I'll just adjust the RHP's according to create a temperature gradient. I have some heat tape I can use if needed, but I may try it with just the RHP's and see how it goes.

Re: RHP question
I too received my t8 without the glass and lock. Do you know whats going on? Have you gotten any communication from Ali about when you'll be getting it?

They have to ship the doors separately since it it glass. Mine came in a day later

I will keep you guys posted on all updates! RHP company I talked to suggested a 65w unit for the T8 and my temps during summer and winter. Getting everything lined up to make 1 big purchase!
Trying to find a LED light to use as a moon shine at night to make the enclosure very eye appealing at all times.

Ali told me when My T8 was going to ship, approximately... a week after that date had passed, and I hadn't heard anything, I sent her an email. She said one of their supplier's got them a little behind and that she would ship my T8 out that day, but the glass doors and lock would ship a little later. I got my T8 last week, and still no glass, lock, or divider. I'm hoping to see it this week.

Literally same exact situation. At least it gave me time to assemble and seal but im anxious!! Want to start setting up my temperature and humidity so i can get the rainbow boa ive prepaid for!!

That's kinda crazy.... but I've heard so many great, positive things about them, I hate to get upset with this transaction and experience thus far. I understand how they can get delayed if one of their suppliers are holding things up... and I'm sure it's hard for them to communicate to all their customers. I'm just trying not to get frustrated and be patient. Like you, I'm excited to get some snakes in the new cage. :)

How long did it take for you guys to receive your enclosures?

Re: RHP question
Ordered Feb 19th recieved the 10th of march, still waiting on the glass doors.

Ordered February 2nd, received March 8th (I think it was). Still waiting on glass doors, door lock, and divider.
-
They were having material issues. I'm still waiting on mine and it's been 10 weeks. Mine wasn't a quick ship though.
-
Re: RHP question
I received my T10 fairly quick for a non-quickship item. However my T8 took a little longer than usual because they were having material issues. At the end, it's worth it.

Do i need to get any cut out or vent holes for enclosure?
-
Re: RHP question
No you dont, the cage has plenty of vents built in. Dependig on your thermostat and thermometer you may need to drill holes for the probes however
-
Re: RHP question
Hey just an update for you guys also waiting on an AP shipment. I just received tracking information for my lock and glass doors this evening scheduled for a Friday delivery. Getting excited now!!
-
I got my notification about 30 minutes ago as well. :)
Sounds like we may have some happy snakes this weekend. LOL

Re: RHP question
Installed the glass doors today. I cant even begin to express how pleased I am. Within an hour i had a PERFECT temperature gradient for my BRB 82 hot side with 72 cool side using my RBI 80 watt heat panel with no additional heat source. Room is 60 degrees. Recommend to ANYONE

Awesome to hear. I got my doors and lock yesterday and put them on last night. I'll be installing my RHP's tonight. I went with the two 40's since I'm dividing the cage for now, as my bp is still fairly small. I'm with you... amazing products and I too would recommend to anyone. Having assembled and built a lot of things over the years, I was exceptionally pleased with the quality and fit of the T8 cage. Everyone said they were great, and I do agree.

Re: RHP question
Like I said, definitely worth the wait. Make sure that you guys air it out for a day or two after you apply the sealant. I'd recommend taking out the glass and just letting sit in a ventilated area.

Re: RHP question
Absolutely, I let mine cure for a week...and by let I mean I didnt get my glass for a week lol! It's incredible how effecient these things are at keeping the heat in.

Question, I see a lot of people on here using a 80w RHP for the T8, I contacted pro products and they suggested a 65w. I'm nervous if this will be perfect since others are using the 80w.

A 65w is probably enough to heat the T8 enclosure in a room that is around 70F or warmer. If you buy your RHP from Reptile Basics, they have 40w, 80w, and 120w.... so since 40w isn't big enough for a whole T8, a lot of folks go with the 80w. Now if you keep the T8 in a room that is 65 degrees or cooler, you may want that extra wattage of the 80w. Then there are some like myself that have a T8 with a divider in it and if doing that, you need to get two 40w Rhp's as the 80w would interfere with the divider. Hope that helps.
