    Quick caging question
I plan to be switching Manasa over to a PVC enclosure sometime this spring, partly to help with humidity, but also for housing new additions (as the PVC enclosures are stackable) later this year (semi-pending spousal approval:please:)

I plan to order from Cornels World (as they are local, and the exchange rate right now stinks), and am looking at the 3' x 2' enclosure. What I can't decide on however, is height. 12" would be more space-efficient and economical, but 16" or 18" would allow for more vertical environment.

Manasa (like most BPs) spends the majority of her time in her hide, but every once and a while she goes climbing all over the place.

    Your thoughts?

That's more your preference than theirs. Floor space is more important than vertical height. One foot high is plenty.

    Quick caging question
Many keepers say that BP's don't need anything over 12 inches. All I can say is my Adult girl loves to climb.

I will be moving her from n 18 inch height to a 24 inch soon.

I housed Leos in a 12 inch high enclosure and in my opinion there a pain to clean. 14 wound be my minimum. If you can get the 18 for not much more then the 16 I would get the 18.

I second the 16 or 18. 12 is not a whole of of room to maneuver for cleaning. And when you expand your collection that will make a difference.

At at this point all enclosures I get are based on animals needs first, but ease of cleaning is a very close second.

I like the 12 inch high cages for BP's. Mine climbs...just not that high off the floor. How high do they need to go ? Mines cool with a good 10 inches off the floor. He tries to get up into the ceiling heat sometimes so I rather have a lower ceiling. Makes it easier to maintain heat and humidity on the floor where they spend most of their time.

I think 12" is plenty of height for a BP. It doesn't hurt to have more vertical space but it's not necessary.

While 12 inches is plenty of height for the snake, I find it's much easier for the keeper to remove said snake when the enclosure is at least 16 inches high ;)

Thanks all for the input :)

Had been leaning towards the 12", but I completely forgot about the cleaning. Now that I think about it, Manasa's current 18" tank is a lot easier to clean than Koko's 12" :P

    It's only a $6 difference between the 16" and 18", but a $60 difference between the 12" and the 16".

The eventual plan is for 4 of them (plus the current 18" tank for Koko once she's big enough), so I guess I'll just have to make a little extra space, and go a little more slowly with the snake acquisition rate (which should actually help with persuading the Supreme Command Authority, a.k.a. wife :gj:)

What Slim said is true about a 12 inch tall cage....It can be a pain to get a full grown BP out of a 12. You have to get under them and support them so you don't drag them through the opening. It can be done but what he said is a very good point that I always noticed with my 12 inch cages.

I'd also go for the 18 inch. It's MUCH easier to clean and move the snake if needed.

And for prople who say BPs dont need vertical space, all my snakes love to hang is they have a chance.
