Can you hold two BPs together?
    Hi!
Perhaps a bit of a weird question but I've had my first Ball Python, Barnaby for a few years now and I'm getting another one, Oscar! I would like to know whether they'd benefit from socialising and being held together- safely of course!
    thanks for any help!

They are solitary animals there is no benefit of them being with another snake outside of breeding

Can you do it? Yes there is no harm in handled together however there is absolutely no benefit either.

Also remember that new animal should be quarantined away from already established animal for at list 90 days (this means no contact and strict protocols to avoid possible cross contamination).

Years ago when I had both, I used to have my ball python and my corn snake out together fairly often. Pretty much neither of them ever gave any sign of noticing that the other was alive or even there. I did keep a careful eye on them though, since the bp was a good bit bigger than the corn and could have slurped him up like a noodle if he were so inclined. But they really just ignored each other.

It is something that I wondered about but never had the nerve in case something went wrong . I keep many different types ( Boa , Burmese Python , Royals / Balls , King snakes , Garter snakes , Corn snakes , Rats snakes etc ) and the idea of just simply introducing any two of them intrigued me .

Nearest I ever get is to hold one or other just to the glass of another one just to see if there's any response . Usually not apart from the Burmese Python and the King snakes who always show a lot of interest - pretty predictable though , I guess , considering how inquisitive they are .

I've seen vids showing of a guy with huge Burmese pythons and Retics clambering all over each other in a garden ....

...You do realize king snakes EAT other snakes in the wild, right? Given that species' usual levels of food drive, I'd say there's a good chance the interest is probably more than "being inquisitive."

    :)

Yeah , I'm sure you are correct .

Whilst the Kings probably have other ideas as you say , the Hypo Burmese is the most inquisitive snake I've ever had and watches everything going on around him ..

Yeah, burms are lovely and I really want one but I cannot locate a breeder in Washington for the life of me :(

I can never make assumptions with what keepers know or don't know about the species they keep. A good exotics keeper should know about their animal's natural diets and behaviors, but I've seen way too many people that don't and make often fatal mistakes because of it.

That's a shame , I got lucky with my Dwarf Hypo Burm as I traded a beautiful SunGlow Boa ( plus some cash ) for him just after I managed to get the Snow Boa ( after years of waiting ) . I like the idea of keeping many different types and getting the Snow made it easier to part with the SunGlow ... if that makes sense ...

He's just over 2 years old now and still under 3 foot long !!!

He's a lovely chilled out , friendly Burm in a tiny little body :)

I want a granite albino, but I'll settle for a normal at this point lol. Keeping a lot of different species is fun, but I'm entertained enough with just a few that I'd rather have several of the sma e species that I know fits well to my energy level and keeping style. For instance, I'd like to try kings at some point, but I have zero interest in corns. I don't usually care for boas, but rainbows are incredible and I want a BRB.

I know on my list of absolutely need it are the albino granite burm and a cow retic. Don't know how I'm going to get them, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed there's just some really quiet breeders hanging out somewhere in the state that I haven't found yet.

My BP doesn't seem to notice or care about anything moving in the world around her unless it is a live rodent lol. I'm sure she does notice it, she just doesn't react very strongly.

Garters do seem to benefit from being able to 'socialize'. That's not the right word for it of course, it just calms them down because they tend to hang out in groups in the wild, giving them the chance that a predator will single out another one in the group. They are probably the most curious reptiles I've ever had.

I gotta say, those that *do* attempt to socialize their BPS are just another example of people putting human traits on their snakes.°

°This does not preclude me from calling my handling times "cuddles" or "snuggles."
