New addition!
We picked up this beautiful banana fire boy with some awesome patterning today! His name is Ocelot/Shalashaska after Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear.

We're not sure either, he came from a super fire x banana pairing
-
That is one beautiful ball python! Really nice addition :gj:

Gorgeous little one! I love the banana morph, beautiful creatures!

Oh yeah, if anyone has any idea what may have caused that pattern please feel free to point it out xD

Well my first thought was Leopard, but I don't know enough about them to be certain.

Could the leopard have shown up randomly? Like I said his parents were a super fire and a banana. Is it even possible for a mutation to just show up randomly?

ALL mutations show up randomly but it's very unlikely that a known mutation would just pop up like that out of the blue. If it IS a leopard (and that's a big if, you'll want to get an opinion from someone who knows more about them) I'd say that it's more likely that the super fire parent could also be a leopard. It wouldn't show up due to the lack of pattern on super fires so you probably wouldn't see it. Maybe ask the breeder you got it from if it's possible they might have the leopard gene in their collection.
-
Yeah, super fires are BELs, all white snakes (sometimes with orange splotches, but no pattern to speak of). If there's leopard in the pairing, it could have been hiding in the white snake. Only way to know is to ask the breeder that produced it!

I spoke to the breeder and he's sure it was just a plain old super fire

Re: New addition!
I also thought Leopard right away. It could be hiding in the Super Fire parent since it wouldn't be evident, but if the breeder says only Fire Banana, stick with that until proven otherwise! :D
-
It would be nice to know what it's super fire parent might have had hiding in its genes. Definitely breed that to a normal and see if the pattern is genetic.
-
That is one really beautiful BP, If i had seen one like that, my husband would have had to drag me away to keep me from buying it. Good luck.

-
very pretty BP. cool pattern indeed. i'm jealous.
the dorsal stripe reminds me of the striping for a GHI Mojave. even the side pattern looks kinda GHI. none of it looks Leopard to me. it would be interesting if the pattern can be duplicated or what comes outta his clutches.
congrats on this unique beauty!

Yeah we plan on trying to prove it out. Hopefully it isn't some weird recessive XD The problem is our only normal female is somewhat of a dinker herself so we're currently planning what the best course of action would be given what snakes we have.

Re: New addition!
When you get a chance, take a look at some pics of Harlequins. Very similar pattern to yours.

ding ding! that's the closest yet. nice breeder insight there. :gj:
Edit: still a Banana Fire until proven otherwise tho. :/

When you ask the breeder about the parents and their genetic background see if he knows anything about the grandparents of your boy. His patterning may come partially from them (grandparentage). Just a thought. :)

Yeah, harlequin does look similar with a few diffeences. If the offspring look like teaditional harlequins it would be safe to say it's a harlequin. Thanks for the tip. c:

The guy who bred him actually bought two super fire females from the same breeder years ago when they were still 2.5k each. I dont think he wpuld have the lineage given that it's been so far back. Thanks for the idea though.
